Overview

It will cost about $3.4 billion and stretch over 400 miles. Its Israeli architects and builders believe it will create peace in the West Bank. Others, however, are not so sure that the "security fence," regardless of its length, height or reinforcements will do anything but disrupt Palestinian daily lives, geography and politics. In these 18 essays contributors describe their reactions to the wall and their assessments of the impact it is already having on life nearby, its relationship to segregation and economic hardship, and what it says about power. Most call for international intervention or at least awareness that the wall exists, and for investigation into what the wall is doing to the people, societies, economies, and systems of governance on both sides. Its methods of collective protest include photographs and maps. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
