The Age of Jackson based on 0 ratings. 5 reviews.
There are so many "historians" and "peer reviewers" that are paid propagandists of the big banks it makes me sick. The fact that this book doesn't come up when searched by ISBN or Title at all in the Library of Congress ought to tell you to read this book. Look at whose in power today and you will know... this is a book for the people. READ IT
Keep in mind this book was written in 1949. It is a classic in the historiography of the Jacksonian era, but modern interpretations of this time period are very different from the one Schlesinger presents here.
This book should have been titled transition to the age of jackson, not just the age of jackson. It is wise of Mr.Schlesinger Jr. to discredit jefferson, hamilton, and clay to help highlight jackson but for him to spend almost 7 chapters doing so is unreasonable. However he does provide a new source of knowledge about jackson himself that was unknown to me. But if Mr.Schlesingers objective was making jackson seem like a honorable man,he has failed in my eyes.
