Very comprehensive overview of the Napoleonic Period

Herrold's book is quite comprehensive in its analysis of the Napoleonic era discussing not just the man but also all the events around the world during Napoleon's reign. The book goes into detail into other areas such as Napoleon's interactions with the American colonies and the effect of Napoleon's policies on the various governments and cultures affected by his reign such as the British in Australia and India and Napoleon's designs on India as well. The book has far reaching insight and provides great information on various aspects of the period. The book includes a good number of different pictures pertaining to certain events as well. In analysis, Herrold is quite even handed and does challenge the common assumptions of Napoleon and some of the views of his contemporaries. A highly recommended work for those interested in Napoleon and the era.
