Overview

Imagine arresting infamous car thieves, drug dealers, and dirty criminals, and then coming home to counsel with Church members, issue callings, and inspire youth. It was all in a day's work for Mike McPheters-FBI agent during the day, IDS bishop at night!

When Mike got his dream job as an FBI agent, he never thought he would also be called as a bishop-four times! In the daytime, Mike worked as an FBI agent managing the lowest dregs of society; in the evenings, he advised troubled teens against immorality and drugs and counseled parents to improve their marriages. In order to maintain balance in his life, Mike explains that he "fought crime and Satan with a pistol in one hand and scriptures in the other."

Told with ease and humor, and filled with thrills and intense stories, Agent Bishop contrasts Mike McPheter's separate but parallel lives as an FBI agent called to serve as a Mormon Bishop.

I was looking forward to reading this unique book. It is a nice read if one is interested in FBI life. The book is about his life as an FBI agent, and in that area is interesting. But it does not deliver on his life as a Bishop. Most things mentioned are generic and vague. If one is not familiar with what a Bishop does, one won't learn much about it from this book. What was his bishop's schedule like? Who filled in for him when he was gone? Much of what a bishop does is private, but were there experiences that could be shared? Also, I still wanted to know what happened to next on some of the experiences he had as an agent. Still a very interesting story, and I'd love to see it re-done to include those specifics, and inter-relate the Agent-Bishop connection more.

I thought it was a very good book about a Mormon Bishop an a FBI agent for close to 30 years of service.
