A Howell Dog Book of Distinction

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
``Simply put, Agility is the most fun you can share with your dog,'' the author asserts, and those who have jumped on the bandwagon for this fast-growing sport will enthusiastically agree. Racing against the clock, dogs must, among many challenging obstacles, clear a series of hurdles, dash through tunnels and up and down see-saws, and weave in and out of a line of closely spaced poles. Simmons-Moake provides a solid introduction to the sport, while husband Gordon's detailed appendix on obstacle construction is extremely useful to those just starting out. Public libraries, especially those serving communities with active dog obedience clubs, should consider. Areas with established agility clubs will prefer Julie Daniels's Enjoying Dog Agility (Doral, 1991), which offers excellent step-by-step training instructions (including puppy training and agility for children) as well as creative ideas for obstacles; it refers readers to the U.S. Dog Agility Association for information on obstacle construction. Okay for beginners, Not advanced!

This book, is a very basic way to approach the sport of agility for beginners. As always, training techniques will change over the years and varying by trainers, though this gives a basic overall write-up on agility training. Being with one of the top agility champions, there is a line between her methods and this book's methods, besides it was published in 1992, alot of things have changed in the dog world since then. Though, once again, a great introductory summary.

    A great book

This book covers everything you would ever want to know about agility, including teaching your dog to preform the obsticles, puting them in a sequence, working from a distance, statigies you might use on the course, instructions on how to build your own agility equipment, all about competitions, and much more. It covers all the problems you might encounter, and how to solve them. And on top of that, it's easy to understand! I'm only 12, and I'm looking forward to getting my own agility dog when I grow up. Whehter you are just looking into agility, or your dog is a national agility champion, you will find this book very helpfull.

Very good instructions & great obstacle plans

The information in this book is very good and sound. The training instructions are not as thorough as Julie Daniels. But I learned from this book, also. The obstacle plans in the appendix are free with the book and they are very good. Buy the book just for the plans, if nothing else.

A Book You and Your Dog Will Love

I bet this book contains more things to teach your dog than any other book made. It will help you and your dog go to the championship.
