Overview

At the age of four Agnes Hahn went to live with her great aunts Gert and Ella. Now Gert is deceased and Ella is in a care home in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. Her life is mundane, her work at the animal shelter routine. And then she is arrested for a string of unimaginably heinous murders. Reporter Jason Powers is covering the murders, but he has more than newspaper copy in mind; this case has bestseller potential. He soon uncovers a tangle of Hahn family secrets and one both shocks and intrigues him—Agnes has a twin. Just when Powers is breaking through Ella’s dementia to put together the puzzle behind the carnage, Ella is murdered by another of the family secrets, Gert and Ella’s brother Eddie. Then Eddie is murdered with clear fingerprint evidence implicating Agnes. When Powers unearths the final family secret he also answers a nagging question: Why did the aunts take only Agnes thirty years ago?

An excellent introduction to this authors work. He keeps you guessing and second-guessing from start to finish. For a book that was offered to readers free, I was extemely pleased tp find that I couldn't put my Nook down. And when I finally did, because I was almost cross-eyed from exhaustion, it was to find it was 3 a.m. and had to go to work in less than 4 hours! However, it was totally worth it!

Good writing, interesting story. Didn't keep me on the edge of my seat, but I did look forward to reading it each day. I found it quite predictable, and was getting annoyed toward the end, but then the author changed gear on me and got my attention once again... looking forward to book two.

Plot was a little too predictable.

Good story, even if harriet klausner did ruin it by revealing 98% of the story.

This is a great read! I will admit that I did have the end figured out before it finished (not really sure when I figured it out) but that did not deter me from reading the rest of it. I still wanted to know what happened. It was well written, well planned out, the characters were well developed and I will be reading the next in the series.

I found this book extremely dull and couldn't stay interested in it. The writing is like reading a thesis paper - dry and boring. Don't bother with this book.
