Overview

Before Captain Ahab encountered Moby Dick, he met the woman who would capture his heart--Hannah Oldweiler. This voyage back to 19th Century Nantucket completes the portrait of the man who ruled the sea with an iron will, and introduces to the woman who had a spirit and determination to match.

When Ahab becomes obsessed with settling a score with the great whale, Hannah is left alone to raise their son and to oversee her husband's estate. Waiting and praying for his safe return, Hannah is faced with loneliness--a deep longing in her soul that not even her husband can meet. Will Hannah become as independent as Ahab? Will she take her future into her own hands? Who will fill the emptiness in her heart?

'Ahab's Bride' is a thoroughly enjoyable read that takes you to the whaling community of 19th Century Nantucket. The heroine is tender-hearted, strong and courageous, and totally devoted to her man. You'll be drawn into Hannah Oldweiler's world and when she cries, you'll cry. The hero will amaze you with his daring voyages and world outlook. You'll love and hate Captain Ahab. But you will always love Hannah. When you finish reading her story you'll be eager to read the next book in the series. I guarantee it! You will become a fan of Louise M. Gouge after reading her first book 'Ahab's Bride.'

AHAB'S BRIDE took me to a time and place that became so real I felt as though I were there, too. The characters and their journey together made me weep and laugh with them--incredibly rich and real. Hannah's internal journey from innocent young girl to mature woman, able to withstand difficulty with grace and dignity, is a story we can all take to heart and try to emulate. Ms. Gouge has created a beautiful story, with a language that draws one in and makes one want to stay for a long, long while. Highly recommended.

Ahab's Bride touches your heart and soul. When Hannah wept, I wept. Each character in this woderful novel, even Moby Dick's Ahab, is richly drawn. Ms. Gouge took me on a journey from when Hannah was an innocent eighteen-year-old with stars in her eyes when meeting the enigmatic Ahab to when she becomes a widow, shattered that her husband put his obsession with the whale before her and their son. Ms. Gouge is a superb writer. She sweeps into your world and tells you to follow her in hers --Hannah's journey to become the independent and strong woman she comes to be.
