Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
At 18, the sheltered and proper Aoi Sakuraba, heir of the powerful Sakuraba Group, ran away from home to find Kaoru Hanabishi, the boy she fell in love with as a child, and announced her desire to marry him. Kaoru had become a poor college student after breaking ties with the wealthy family that raised and mistreated him. Luckily, Aoi's family eventually accepted him. As the story now unfolds, Aoi and Kaoru must avoid scandal by masquerading as landlady and tenant, under the watchful eye of Aoi's longtime tutor, Miyabi. This book features a lighter tone than its predecessor, as the members of Kaoru's photography club join the cast. With elements of both the craziness of Ken Akamatsu's Love Hina and the warmth and charm of Kosuke Fujishima's Oh My Goddess!, this will appeal to fans of either. Tokyopop rates the series for ages 16 and up; nudity is prevalent and suggestive enough that some libraries may wish to put it in the adult section. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

    Going downhill...

More like 2 1/2 stars, but 2 is close enough. Being a writer and artist myslef, I just can't ignore the faults here. Unlike so many avid manga readers, I refuse to blindly embrace every new series and throw around a 5 star rating like there's no tomorrow. Concluding this volume we fianlly have a basic setup to a typical series of this type. Or in other words, there are at least 3 females living with a male, which is 'enough for now.' I DO enjoy series of this type, no matter how cliched they may be, but I need QUALITY and some laughs as well. This series just can't seem to decide whether to take itself seriously or not. It's definately a more serious Romance/Comedy, but there's just not enough comedy, and the romance is pretty standard fare. Most disturbing is the sudden mood swings and nonsensical nudity. Why do we need a topless shot of Miyabi as she expresses her lack of self-esteem? Why is she depressed? Why is she parading about naked? Who knows, it never makes it clear. The emotion feels somewhat subsided when compared to the anime series, too. The thing is, when you have average scriptwriting, you'll need a pretty setting and soothing music to accompany it, which disguises the mediocrity well enough. The anime series has that, but in the manga, without any touching BGM along with bland scenery...the shallowness really stands out. Sorry, Ai Yori Aoshi fans, but it's the truth. Try Love Hina or Saikano instead...
