Meet the Author

Philip Handleman is a pilot and owner of vintage aircraft, an Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker, an aviation photographer, and the author of numerous aviation books.

Walter J. Boyne is a retired U.S. Air Force pilot, the former director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum, a best-selling author, and a world-renowned authority on aviation history. His thirty books include The Smithsonian Book of Flight, Eagles at War, and Beyond the Wild Blue: A History of the United States Air Force, 1947-1997. He lives in Ashburn, Virginia.

    Factual Reading

    Well put together..interesting , covering all phases of Aviation.

    Interesting reading for the layman.

    The book is OK for light reading but for serious military readers the book may seem repetitive. Some good stories, however. Better for high school students.
