Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Young readers love science and so many times it is written at such a high level that the concepts are lost. In Air: Outside, Inside, and All Around, simple vocabulary and wonderful illustrations allows young people to read about the abstract concept of air and truly understand what it actually is. The table of contents at the front of the book shows how each section is broken down so it can be used as a research tool. The fun facts at the bottom of some pages gives awesome information about such things as how air gets so thin that test pilots have to use special tanks to breath. The organization and information makes this book a great extension of any science lesson on air. Do not forget to do the experiments at the back of the book explaining how to make a barometer and how cold and hot air move. Darlene Stille created a wonderful book that sends young readers to the water, to the atmosphere, and to the park as they learn what air is and how it effects our every day lives. Even though it is well written, it might still be a good idea for this book to be read to students if they are not at least in the second grade. This also provides for a time to discuss all these interesting facts and even learn more. It is part of the "Amazing Science" series. 2004, Picture Window Books, Ages 4 to 8.
