Overview

The Aircraft of the Aces series, devised by Tony Holmes in 1994, has become the most successful aviation series ever published by Osprey during its 30-year history. One of the key ingredients to the series' success is the specially-commissioned cover artwork by Iain Wyllie, which has received praise from across the globe. Osprey is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of The Aces Collection, Legends of World War II, a unique and beautiful celebration of Wyllie's cover illustrations of these airplanes. Thirty paintings from thirty different Aces books will be featured in full-color, each with information about the aircraft depicted in the artwork, the pilot flying it, and the action in which it is involved. Tony Holmes has worked as Osprey's aerospace editor since 1989, having previously served as an author/photographer for this publishing house in Australasia. Andrew Thomas is one of Britain's most pre-eminent RAF researchers, having published numerous squadron histories. He is presently a serving officer in the RAF. Iain Wyllie is one of Britain's leading-and most prolific aviation cover artists. A native of Northern Ireland, he trained as a naval draughtsman. Iain chose to become a full-time aviation artist in the late 1980s, and has been responsible for creating over 50 cover artworks for Osprey's hugely successful Aircraft of the Aces and Combat Aircraft series since 1994. His artwork is synonymous with originality of subject, intricate detail and technical accuracy. Osprey
