Overview

...just when the nightmare raging in Julien Storm’s clairvoyant mind is about to consume him, a session with a local hypnotist yields a clue that sets off a chain of events, leading to a mysterious clearing set deep in the Cascade Mountains. The source of the magnetic disturbances plaguing the boy’s young mind has been waiting, for more than ten thousand years…

“AKTIYA: The Ignition Sequence” begins with Julien, a clairvoyant teenager coming of age amongst the heavy security, the curfew, and the incinerators of the not-too-distant future— Seattle, in the year 2056. Julien suffers from a childhood nightmare that has returned, with a growing intensity. After undergoing hypnosis with a local psychic, Julien is convinced that a mysterious force is beckoning him, to a specific location set deep in the Cascade Mountains of central Washington.
Meanwhile, in the small town of Mazama, 200 miles to the northeast, a sudden explosion rips through a local convenience store. A suspect, “Ca-Siem”, is taken into custody. Ca-Siem claims to be an intergalactic traveler from a faraway planet, searching for a machine that went missing more than 10,000 years ago. His search coincides with the legend of “Aktiya”, a mythical guardian that the Native Americans believe will rise and reclaim Planet Earth. If Ca-Siem can just keep the magnetic interference in his brain from overloading, he could get to the coordinates before his government arrives. The coordinates point to a clearing, set deep in the Cascade Mountains of central Washington.
This is the story of two souls, two souls that are millions of light years apart, linked by a frequency that knows no boundaries. Some believe it to be a savior; others believe it to be a cataclysm. Julien and Ca-Siem must confront humanity’s “tragic design flaws” as well as their own personal demons, if they are to learn the truth about the machine lying beneath the mysterious clearing…

Editorial Reviews

Kirkus Discoveries
...Cooper’s book satisfies in a way that so many protracted tales of teenage destiny don’t. Readers will genuinely care about Julien, even after his apotheosis, and be earnestly bothered by a vision of America that’s too familiar to be comfortably preposterous.
A thoughtfully concise story that’s best for lovers of messianic fantasy and dystopian atmospherics.
Ant SFBookReviews
...There are a number of surprises though and the ending shows that this must (or at least should) be the first in a series.

Aktiya The Ignition Sequence has some great ideas and is very easy to read, in my opinion it will appeal much more to the Young Adult reader rather than the older one, nevertheless I did find an enjoyable read.
