Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 6-9-An adequate account of the subject's life to this point. Beginning with a chapter on the 1992 Democratic National Convention, Burford establishes Al Gore as the candidate for 45th Vice-President of the United States. Then, in short chapters, she relates the milestones of his life beginning with the illustrious political career of his father, Albert Sr. The picture she paints of Al Gore, Jr. is one of conviction, honesty, integrity, and dedication. But it is to her credit that she relates his human frailties as well: his indecision regarding service in Vietnam, his bitterness following his father's final defeat, and the family therapy the Gores underwent following their son's near-fatal accident. It is also refreshing to see space devoted to the efforts of his wife Tipper in her campaign to label rock-music recordings. A wide variety of secondary sources provided information for this book, but, unfortunately, no primary material was used. Chapter notes are meticulous. Black-and-white photographs are, for the most part, interesting and add insight to the text.-Marilyn Makowski, Greenwood High School, SC
