Overview

Christmas is always a special time of year and what better way to celebrate than by making and decorating your very own Christmas cake? There are 15 elegant cakes to choose from, along with seven or so festive sprays to adorn your Christmas table. The cakes are decorated with all things Christmassy -- from sugarcraft poinsettias and holly berries to fir cones and snowflakes. There are both single- and double-tiered cakes, as well as round, square and even star-shaped ones. After a comprehensive introduction on sugarcraft materials and techniques comes a chapter on flower and foliage build-ups, which breaks down the assembly of each into manageable and easy-to-follow steps. Next follows a chapter on cakes, showcasing 15 Christmas cakes and seven sprays made using the components featured in the previous chapter. If you're looking for the ultimate guide to sugarcrafting with a Christmas theme, this book has all you need to get you started.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - BookSmack!
The strength of this book is in the techniques sections. The skills taught would be more appropriate for intermediate to advanced cake decorators, though the resulting cakes are gorgeous to look at and can be used by novices as inspiration. Dunn (The Wedding Cake Decorator's Bible) focuses on botanical elements, which he explains in his introduction is his personal preference. Because of this, artificial floral arrangements are also interspersed with the cake decorations. The styling of the cakes tends to be very crisp and fancy, even when simply decorated. Templates for the decorative embellishments are included in the back.I Would Give This to A number of my friends who have taken a few cake-decorating classes as well as friends interested in floral arrangements.
