They had enlisted the protection of the English Government, and the police equipment and caution exercised in regard to the safety of the Turks and the jewels were such that the country was electrified when one morning four Turks were found dead in their rooms, the diamonds were missing, and the particular Assistant Secretary in the Foreign Office .

Although some of the language and attitudes are somewhate dated, this is great story telling. The free versions are difficult to read, but when edited, its a page turner. Find a 99? version and read it. Would make a great movie. The lawyer/detective/hero is a forerunner to Lord Peter Wimsey. Written as a contempory piece it is now a 'historical novel' This author writes in several different genre, and this one is one of my favorites.
