    great book

Ok I have read the three listed reviews and must say, as a practicing physician, know your strengths and weaknesses! Because I was a bumbling highschool student, I 'graduated' with limited mathematical knowledge. Consequently, when I enrolled in college physics and chemistry I had to drop the classes because I did not understand 'algebra'. Thereafter, and as a committed college student, I went to the libriary beleiving I could teach myself Algebra. What a joke, the populist math books did not make since to me. They were more interested in applying the 'distributive or communicative' properties. Yea, I even tried 'tutors' and discovered they were teaching those same 'new math' concepts. Saxon was the only book that not only explained why we could subtact, add and could even multiply or divide LETTERS. More importantly he references real life situations. Consequently, if you are a math wiz this book is NOT for you. However, if you are in the majority, statistically speaking, and are having trouble 'understanding math' purchase this book and the algebra one and the algebra 1/2 book as I did but don't wait till college! Great Book

I loved it. I love the Saxon math books! They explain all the steps so well. The only reason that I have ever had to read a section more than once because i don't understand it is when I'm not completely paying attention the first time I read through it.

    An Interesting and Attractive Approach

Saxon uses life based examples to keep you from getting on that one-way track to math distress, he wants you to know that math and critical thinking is a way of life. His examples kept my mind off of math and directed it towards the problem needing to be solved. Then realizing I not only solved the problem, I completed an equation! I love this book and recommend it anyone who has math phobia or just wants math to be fun!!!
