Editorial Reviews

NY Daily News
In the “Alice’s” book, you’ll find recipes both delightful and down to earth. In only six steps, you can re–create the shop’s popular berry scones… A savory and crunchy cumin carrot sandwich takes just minutes. The vanilla tea–infused granola or the blueberry lemon cake are, well, a piece of cake.

While Alice may be fictional, Alice's Tea Cup is a real place. Opened in 2001 by the Fox sisters, it serves Victorian tea fare with a twist. Delectable scones include Black Forest Ham and Cheese Scones and Lavender Earl Grey Scones. Steak lovers will devour Alice's Steak Salad—which calls for steak, mixed greens, a Maté Carnival tea-soaked egg, and Granny Smith apple. The Foxes also discuss tea-brewing basics and the art of the tea party and share resources for locating teas. A treat for party planners and tea drinkers.

I have only had this beautiful cookbook for a few days and have already tried several recipes. The chocolate cake is amazing. I plan on making it for my daughter's birthday next week. Last night I tried the lentil and bacon salad and my kids were asking for more. Tomorrow morning it's time for scones. I will let the kids decide which flavor. The recipes are easy to follow and the images are so lovely. I love to give cookbooks as my holiday gift to close friends and family and this is the perfect book for that. It's the perfect size and is fun to look through even when you are not cooking up one of their delicious scones.

This book is an absolute gem -- just like the restaurants. I love all the family pictures and the story of how the restaurant got started. And it's a delightful mix of recipes and hostessing ideas. I've bought one for myself and giving another as gift for an upcoming bridal shower. It make such a nice gift, especially for people who like to have a little bit of NYC in their kitchen.

'Alice's Tea Cup: Delectable Recipes for Scones, Cakes, Sandwiches' is just that - two hundred forty pages of recipes from a popular New York tea shop. Recipes run the gaumont from savories such as Mate Carnival Egg Salad to baked items such as Banana Nutella Cake and Berry Bunch Tisane-Infused Scones. But the primary reason for buying the book is the recipe for scones. And for the unenlightened but soon to be pleased, scones are rich biscuits often containing cream and butter. Authors Haley and Lauren Fox offer a basic scone recipe and several variations. Every good cook needs a good scone recipe. And if you don't have one, this is a good place to start. The scone variations are interesting; my personal favorites are the Black Forest Ham and Cheese Scones and the Walnut Stilton Scones. Scones are usually simple and quick to make; many of these recipes may be a bit time consuming and are more 'tea party' than family brunch. The bottom line: An interesting assortment, but glance through this one before you buy and see if these are recipes that you'll really be using. The publisher provided a copy of this book for review.

Got this book on location in there original store because I couldn't not get my hands dirty with their fabulous recipes! Delicious, fairly easy recipes for anyone who knows their way around a kitchen, and lots of healthy options! I love this cookbook, and highly recommend it (and their shops!) to anyone who likes high quality, yet still accessible, food.

In 2001, Alice's Tea Cup opened on Seventy-Third Street in New York, a magical hideaway where tea could be savored with a bit of whimsy and happiness. The success of the Fox sisters is now ours to enjoy in this delightful collection of recipes for scones, teas, cakes, soups and sandwiches from the restaurant menu. Alice's Tea Cup is a veritable feast for the eyes and palette. I especially enjoyed the recipes for Green Goddess Soup, White Rabbit Dark Chocolate Mousse, Blueberry Lemon Cake and Turkey Chili. A host of fabulous photographs illuminate each recipe, with easy to follow instructions and serving tips. Excellent gift idea for the cook searching for something a little different.

Our family loves Alice's Tea Cup so we had to buy the book. The recipes are delicious, but it's more than the a cookbook, it's a great read too. We're getting copies for my mom and sister who love to go to the restaurant whenever they're in the city. Now they can have a taste of Alice's right in their house.

This cookbook was highly anticipated in my household. I surprised my children with the book after school the day it came out. My ten year-old lunged for the book and looked for the warm lentil salad. She put her shoes back on and asked if we could go to the grocery store to get the ingredients. We followed the recipe and, voila!, warm lentil salad for dinner!! My 7- and 4-year-old eat the salad but don't LOVE it as much as my 10-year-old and myself. We threw in extra bacon to personalize it. My husband saw the book on the counter and over the weekend we made the banana butterscotch scones. We got flour all over the kitchen, but had warm, gooey, delicious scones for breakfast. Plus, our house smelled like a bakery all day. I love the stories interspersed throughout and the little tidbits as to why a certain recipe is on the restaurant menu or how they originated. If the Fox sisters every do a second book, my 7-year-old already is clamoring for their black bean soup recipe!! Please!?! In the meantime, I look forward to cooking my way through this cookbook.

I bought this as a gift for a dear friend in Manhattan. She did not know about Alice's so it's like two gifts in one!

Have made several recipes from this already and they are excellent. If you love scones, these are the best! There are no hard to obtain ingredients and they mix well and bake beautifully. One favorite of my family is the "peanut butter and jelly scone." I have used various jams and the favorite here are black cherry preserves and pineapple preserves with the peanut butter. The taste is not heavy and cloying with peanut butter but light. Enjoy!
