This example of shojo, manga for teen girls, will captivate anyone by its art alone. The story involves "Alichinos," beautiful, supernatural beings hunted by humans because they have the power to grant wishes; in fact, the name means "those who entice," and the Alichinos actually feed on the souls of those who seek them out. They especially hunger for the "Kusabi," humans born with exceptionally powerful souls who are the only beings able to kill an Alichino. This opening installment introduces Tsugiri, a handsome young Kusabi who is hunted by some Alichinos and protected by others, including one in owl form who has a penchant for spouting sardonic observations. Both sides of Alichinos are mustering their forces as the book ends, so more plot complications are sure to follow. The story has a dark, magical flow to it, but its main attraction is unquestionably the art. Shurei is an award-winning artist in Japan, but this is her first outing as both writer and artist. Each page of this work is a lovely composition, full of the swirling fabric and hair typical of manga but worked into a layout that is as intriguing as it is beautiful. Her exquisitely fine line work and intense characterization enliven the story, while drawing the readers' attention from panel to panel. (Feb.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

The artwork in Alichino is absolutely amazing. Here and there, there are a few pictures with strange proportioning, but the detail and emotion in the art makes up for the tiny flaws. The characters are intriguing and the story is interesting.

Beautiful creatures called 'Alichino' grant any wish to those who find them--but at a price! A young lady searching for an Alichino wants to bring her brother back to life. She meets Tsugiri, a handsome young man who she thinks is an Alichino. While Tsugiri turns out to be a mere mortal, he does have a mysterious connection with these rare creatures--a connection that brings him and those around him grave danger!

Beautiful creatures that are beckoned by human sorrow, desires, and longing. They grant wishes, BUT for a price. All they ask for is to be compensated with the same 'weighted' price as the wish itself. To any manga enthusiast, it will be apparent the art work is amazing. But a forewarn, this manga is cut short. The series only goes up to Volume 3 and hiatus after that. I only wish it could continue. Alichino is about a young man who has the ability to attract Alichino since birth, but he never knew why. With this mysterious connection he has with these rare creatures all those in his life are in grave danger. What is enticing these Beautiful beings? Only one way to find out.

I found Alichino engaging and addictive, but the series appears to be incomplete and unlikely to complete. The artwork is top quality with lots of detail and dark shojo beauty. The characters are mysterious revealed to you over time.

This book has top quality artwork. However, do not read this book it only leads to disapiontment. No, not because of the plot, nor the ending of the manga, but rather the fact that the manga has not continued in three years. I love this book however, I wish it would end.
