Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
A longtime favorite of the underground industrial rock scene, Skillet has undergone a spate of changes lately, including several new band members, new management, and a new home base. What remains unchanged is Skillet's hard-driving, aggressive brand of ministry-focused rock. Title track "Alien Youth" sets the tone here, as band founder/lead singer John Cooper practically spits out his view of the Rapture: "Worldwide Jesus domination, love conquers all," he shouts above buzz-saw guitars. It doesn't sound very loving, but then Skillet's brand of Christian rock has never been for wimps, as the equally aggressive "Kill Me, Heal Me" attests. Less fractious tunes such as "You ...

It doesn't sound very loving, but then Skillet's brand of Christian rock has never been for wimps, as the equally aggressive "Kill Me, Heal Me" attests. Less fractious tunes such as "You Are My Hope" and "One Real Thing," both of which feature Cooper's wife Korey on harmony, are more accessible and should garner Skillet some radio airplay.
All Music Guide - Steven Douglas Losey
With the release of their fourth studio opus, entitled Alien Youth, the band Skillet establishes themselves as true pioneers in progressive Christian music. While prior releases seemed to feel their way through the dark, Alien Youth finds the light switch. The title cut kicks off the disc with splendor, as heavy, distorted guitars drive the tune into an alternative peak. "Vapor" offers much the same heaviness, as John Cooper sings through a wall of guitars at the chorus. When the band lies back in favor of acoustic guitars and programmed drums, they seem to be at their best. "You Are My Hope" is a cut that takes you places without leaving your seat. Here, the band utilizes well-placed backup vocals and an inspiring chorus to shine. The same is true for the cut "One Real Thing." On the song, John Cooper trades vocal passages with his wife and keyboardist, Korey Cooper. The tune is guided with a light synth and straightforward bass riff that leave just enough air for guitar harmonics to flavor the background. Ending the disc is a cut that permeates the soul. "Come My Way" is a piano-driven melody with awe-inspired lyrics. Cooper's vocals, when mixed with his wife, Korey's, are chilling. Alien Youth isn't just a great record; it serves as a voice to a generation of those seeking answers.

One of the best albums out in a while!

I have followed Skillet since their second album(Hey you, I love your Soul)and they keep getting better with each album. This album is totally Christian in it's message, and totally heavy in it's sound. There are no secular bands that compare with them. They are that orginal. A must buy for any metal/heavy industrial music fan!

CAN SKILLET POSSIBLY GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS?

It seems that Skillet just keeps expanding and expanding in their songs and their faith. I thought How could Skillet possibly get any better than INVINCIBLE, but when i bought ALIEN YOUTH, i was totally blown away! From the in your face Jesus-rocks-ain't-no-doubt-about-it attitude of it's title track, to the hard driven "Earth Invasion" (which by the way, my band and i covered at a show this summer), to the poetic tune of "Come my way", this record is a definite keeper not only for panheads but to newcomers of the band's music as well.
