From The CriticsReviewer: Riad Barmada, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This book describes the experiences of 14 patients who underwent hip replacement.
Purpose: The intended purpose is to help patients who need total hip replacement understand the experience they will be subjected to prior, during, and after the procedure.
Audience: Obviously, patients with hip disorders are targeted.
Features: The book contains stories about the experience of each of the 14 patients interviewed.
Assessment: Since hip replacement is a surgical procedure indicated for many types of hip disorders, the information each patient needs could be different in many regards and the surgeon is the only person who can provide the necessary information. Usually, information is provided by small brochures. These should be supplemented by more specific instructions provided by the surgeon; in that way it is custom-made for each patient.
