Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
This book of drawing instructions is designed to encourage reluctant readers as well as teach kids how to draw. Large, easy-to-read type provides an introduction to the book as well as to each kind of horse and pet that is featured. As in all of the books of this how-to-draw genre, the objects to be drawn are reduced to simple geometric shapes. The reader/artist is then provided steps to follow to combine the geometric shapes to complete the drawing. This is a time-tested technique for all beginning artists. There are fun facts about horses and pets on each page to inform young artists of diverse bits of information such as the fact that a mouse's teeth keep growing during its entire lifetime, so they must constantly be gnawing on things to wear them down. Some of the pets included are beta fish, a cockatiel and a Rottweiler. Interspersed are numerous instructions for drawing Shetland ponies, American Quarter horses and Morgans, among other kinds of horses. There are a total of 37 animals in the book. Colorfully illustrated, the instructions are easy to follow in this book. There are three books in this series "All About Drawing." Reviewer: Kristin Harris
