    Lightning: Science and Personal Safety

'All About Lightning' explains lightning phenomena very well. Most readers will have all of their questions about lightning answered. Within these pages we learn about lightning protection systems, about the relationship between thunder and lightning, about personal safety in a thunderstorm, and about the role played by lightning in the electrical balance of the atmosphere. There are eyewitness accounts of ball lightning and several spectacular photographs of lightning. This book would be an excellent resource for a child doing a science fair project on lightning. (A motivated high school student can probably read this book with good comprehension; a middle school pupil will probably need help from a parent in understanding this book.)

Best book to learn about lighning and related subjects

Within my awareness, this is the best author on the phyiscs of lightning (voltage, current, charge, speed, event sequence, frequency of occurrence, length/width of channel, temperature, etc.). Related subjects such as injuries, death rate, damage, protection, thunderstorms, harnessing power, etc. are also discussed. The book could use updating with data acquired in the last 14 years (1986-2000). Book needs a supplement for more info on lightning protection. Another book by same author 'Lightning' is more narrow and more technical about the physics of lighning.
