This volume examines the tooth itself, providing large, labeled diagrams of the tooth’s four layers (enamel, dentin, cementum, pulp), which support the text’s clear descriptions of these anatomical features. Kids are also walked through the general tooth-growing process, which notes how children have 12 fewer teeth than adults, and the different jobs teeth have to do—it’s not all chewing! Throughout, stock photos of children appear, flashing gap-toothed grins. The book concludes with an activity for kids to make a “Tasty, Toothy Treat” with a caregiver (an appleslice smile with mini-marshmallow teeth). A toothsome introduction to human dentition.
