The Velvet Rope was a fairly bold move on Janet Jackson's part, as she got seriously sexy -- too serious, actually, since it had a fairly bitter tone, underscored by hints of perversity. Four years later, marked by one hidden marriage revealed through a divorce, Janet returned with All for You, an album that is as about sex as much as The Velvet Rope, yet there's a key difference -- it feels sexy, not pornographic. All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
With her trusty collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in tow, she's created a record that's luxurious and sensual, spreading leisurely over its 70 minutes, luring you in even when you know better. And there are certainly moments that make you wish you knew better. For one, it's plotted like The Velvet Rope, filled with skits and deliberately recalling the record with its obsession with flesh and how it builds on '70s soul and soft rock. This time around, instead of Joni Mitchell, she appropriates America's "Ventura Highway" for "Someone to Call My Lover," one of the record's best cuts, and "interpolates" Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" on "Son of a Gun," with Simon singing and...well, I guess you could call it rapping...right along. The twist is, this is an anti-music industry song and a particularly foul-mouthed entry on the album, sitting comfortably alongside another industry song, the slow groove "Truth." And that fills out the three main themes of the album -- divorce, industry, and sex -- with a little bit of love on the side. These keep things humming throughout this overly sultry, overlong album, which intrigues with its very texture even as it lulls at its length. After all, there's a lot to be said for texture, and All for You is alluring, easily enveloping the listener. Though it's hardly as explicit as The Velvet Rope, apart from a section where she proclaims "I just want to suck you, taste you, ride you, feel you, make you come -- come inside of me" mind you, this album did not have a parental advisory sticker on its first pressings, this is her sexiest-sounding record, thanks to Jam and Lewis' silky groove and her breathy delivery, two things that make the record palatable throughout too many spoken interludes and songs that just don't quite click. Even if there is a fair share of filler, this is hardly as strained as The Velvet Rope though in many respects, it's every bit as self-conscious, and there's an ease to its construction, topped off by such songs as "All for You" and "Doesn't Really Matter" that maintain Janet, Jam, and Lewis' reputation as the leading lights of contemporary urban soul. It'd be nicer if the album was leaner, concentrating on just the great songs, but indulgence is what this record encourages. Janet sprawls out throughout the album, indulging her whims, desires, and fantasies, but -- fortunately for us -- her indulgences are alluring in their self-absorption. Of course, it helps to have Jam and Lewis on your side to articulate your indulgence.

    Beautifully Upbeat, Sexy & Inspiring

There is not one song on this CD I didn't like. It's earthy and sensual, but upbeat and fun. She really expresses herself here and is open to making music an art. Excellent!

''All for You'' is ALL GOOD!!

Ms. Jackson sparkles on her latest album, All For You. This CD hums with infectious dance beats, foot-stomping guitar, and sensuous synth vibes. AFY reflects quite a change from Janet's last effort, the introspective album (which was much appreciated by her fans), ''Velvet Rope.'' Janet's newfound sense of personal peace and contentment shine through on AFY: from the smile she wears on the album cover to the very last outro on the CD. A distinctly upbeat feel pervades on the album, but Janet is far from one-dimensional in her self-expression. AFY's moods range from the feel-good vibes of tracks like ''Someone to Call My Lover'' and ''All for You,'' to the erotic musings of ''Would You Mind'' and ''China Love,'' to the sassy, in-your-face tone of ''You Ain't Right'' and ''Trust a Try.'' The listener comes away with sense of having travelled with Janet through her varied perspectives on love, lust, betrayal and freedom. Janet really delivers on ''All For You.'' This album is a must-have!!

    Nothing Sounds Better

JANET has returned indeed with the best album she has created to date. The entire album is worth listening to more than once with songs that grab the listener and focus on intimacy, freedom, love, liberation. JANET has surely made it to the top again where she will stay for quite some time.

    Not for me

I am disappointed with this release, Janet generally has original music, but this one has many sampled tracks. I am in my early forties, and I have been greatly disappointed with the newer music. They don't seem to have any originality.

All For You is..... All That and More

Janet is truly an unbelievably talented artist. I cannot believe she has been able to deal with the heartache of a divorce and lawsuits and come out with this type of album! The title track ''All For You'' is a club-hopping track with contemporary pop written all over it. Her single has sold approximately more than 108,000 units! She is #1 on Hot 100 Billboard Singles Chart! She is #1 in the US, Canada and the UK! I cannot believe this woman! Undoubtedly, Janet is the Queen of Pop. I cannot wait until she unleashes her tour! Move over teens, here is the legend and ICON herself. Simply amazing work!

Miss Jacksons ''ALL FOR YOU'' is da bomb, its tight!!!!

The first time I heard it I was like this is the bomb! her voice has gotten better, the beats, melodies, hormony, lyrics are DA BOMB! The album is not nasty to me and I am 16 teen years old. Yeah, Janet says cuss words on the album. Who doesnt use cuss words? its the way we human express are self when were angry, sad, happy, when we make love :) not that I had sex yet. Janet and my parents told me to wait awhile before I give the panties away. Janet said that the album is about the different levels of love and that`s exactly what the album is about. For example ''You Aint Right'' and ''Son Of A Gun'' is about a man who did you wrong because what he did to you wasn`t right and his a son of a gun. ''Trust A Try'' and ''Truth'' is about the trust in the relationship. ''ALL For You'' and ''Someone To Call My Lover'' is about finding that new lover and if you see that lover in the club he/she needs to step to you and not be shy cause its all for them. Now getting to the ''nasty'' the ''sexy'' parts of the album. ''When We OOOOH'' ''China Love'' ''Love Scence'' ''Would You Mind'' are the baby making songs like Janet said. If you want to make love to your man or gurl these are the songs to play. ''Come On Get Up'' is a club song and a house party song like the others on this album. ''Feels So Right'' sounds like that confused love. You dont know how the other person feels about you, but you know when you kiss them, when they are holding you, loving you (not physical), when they touch you with their hands it feels so right and you havent had sex yet. thats what i get from the song. ''Better Days'' is one of those songs that if you have a bad day you can play that song. The song makes you feel better and to let you know tomorrow will be a better day. That song is on of those inspiration songs. You should know a Janet album won`t be a complete album without a inspiration song on it. Janet, Jimmy, Terry,Rockwilder and everyone who worked on this album did a extremely excellant job. They put their whole foot in this project. This album is one of her best. If I could give Janet a Zillion star for this album I would, but I had to give her five stars because that the hightest you can go. I didnt even skip a song or a Interlude. Excellant Job Janet! and you did this album without Rene and IT ONE OF YOUR BEST ALBUMS YOU GO GURL!

    Janet Jackson has returned!

All For You, by Janet Jackson, is a really great CD. A radio station in my state played the entire CD and I thought most of the songs were really good. If you love Janet's music, then you will love this. It's great, upbeat, happy music that will make you wanna dance. Great Pop music! A must have for your Janet collection! My favorite track, by the way, is of course, the title track - ''All For You''!

Same ol Same Ol - Janet In A Rut

Having been a big Janet fan for many years, I was surprised that there isn't anything new to listen to. After just a week of listening to this record I have tired of it. Actually, it prompted me to get out her 1814 video to enjoy Janet at her best. What is also surprising is that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are coasing on their production duties. To have so many songs based on samples is discouraging from a production team that blazed new gound a few years back. I guess life just got to easy.
