Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Readers looking for light romance will enjoy Colasanti’s (Keep Holding On) depiction of a long-distance relationship that beats the odds, even before it’s officially a relationship. After meeting on the beach, Skye, a privileged high-school student, and Seth, a recent graduate whose father owns a failing roller rink, fall head-over-heels in love, but they part unexpectedly before exchanging contact information. A torturous year of separation ends with a reunion on the same beach, and it appears that distance has made the couple’s hearts grow fonder. They immediately make plans to visit each other on weekends while Seth attends college in Philadelphia. What follows is a fairly predictable account of tested passion as Skye and Seth overcome hurdles to stay together. Although the two characters are well-defined, what they have in common is as vague as their understanding of each other. Seth never unloads the emotional baggage he carries about his parents’ separation and his fears about his own future, while Skye remains preoccupied with concerns about her friends throughout most of the novel. Ages 12–up. (May)
School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up—Skye is hopeful that this will be the summer she finally meets the boy of her dreams at the beach-but when she does, he leaves before they have a chance to exchange contact information. It's the following summer before they reconnect, and, once they do, they know they are meant to be. It's not an easy relationship, with Seth working his way through college and Skye finishing high school, but true love will find a way. Skye and Seth tell their story in alternating chapters, introducing friends and families who remain in the background instead of becoming full characters. Drama with Skye's friends and Seth's ex-girlfriend pads out the story and contributes to the only real tension in the book. The time line moves quickly, covering nearly three years and giving readers more of an overview of the relationship than a real sense of depth. This title will excite established Colasanti fans, but it is unlikely to win over new readers.—Brandy Danner, Perkins School for the Blind, Watertown, MA
Kirkus Reviews
An unlikely young couple finds true love during summer break--but can it withstand their different lives? Skye spends her summers vacationing on the Jersey Shore in her family's large beach house, positive that nothing interesting will ever happen. Unexpectedly, she meets Seth at a party on the last night of the summer, and the chemistry is immediate and intense. A plan to exchange contact information goes awry, and they part not knowing how to find each other. Fate reunites the couple the next summer, and they decide to make their relationship work. Well-to-do Skye and Seth, a boy of lesser means, must find common ground despite their very different lives: Seth worries endlessly about money and paying for his Ivy League education, while Skye is still working through high school dramas. As Seth and Skye feel their way through the trials and tribulations of young love, the world marches on around them, and the two of them shakily navigate how to find their place together in it. Romantic and swooning plotlines filled with chance encounters soon dissipate into the real-life logistics of making a relationship work. Readers shouldn't fret: The romance ramps back up to a swelling crescendo, sure to leave enthusiasts sighing and reaffirmed about the power of true love. Grab your blankets and sunscreen now: This is an ideal summer beach book. (Romance. 13 & up)

I was excited to start this one because the cover looked so adorable and the synopsis sounded cute, I did like it but it didn't live up to my exceptions.
Told in alternating POV's between Skye and Seth.
Skye and Seth meet one summer at a beach party and instantly fall head over heels in love. They part ways after spending just two days together and can't seem to get each other out of their heads for the next few years.
When they bump into each other things resume as if they didn't go anywhere.
The characters were a little bit flat. Skye was whiny and annoying.
It was boring in some parts, maybe not boring but slow, it came to a standstill in the middle of the book. Along with the break, a three year time break, that made things a little confusing.
This was the second Susane Colasanti book I have read, the first being Keep Holding On, and while they were very different stories, I could definitely tell they were from the same author.
I think All I Need is a quick, fun, sweet summer read. Perfect beach read that's for sure!
Thank Penguin and NetGalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book falls right in the middle of what I like and what I do

This book falls right in the middle of what I like and what I don't. On the one hand, it is super sweet and focuses on real love and developing lasting relationships. In the other hand, there is a lot of sex talk and high school drama.

I like the way the relationship between the characters develops. They know they have something real and they take things pretty slow. They give themselves time to get to know each other before getting too serious. Both characters are likable, which is a must with a romance heavy story.

Although I prefer sex free books, I appreciate the way the author focuses on true love. It is not some lusty novel that will make you blush. The sex is non-descriptive and they wait until after she is an adult. I also like how at that point, it is more of an expression of their love for each other rather than a need to fill their own desires. I feel like there is so much pressure on teens to get involved intimately with their boyfriend or girlfriend and it is refreshing to see a book that focuses on developing a good relationship before getting so serious. There is quite a bit of sex talk from Skye and her friends, but again, the author used it to explain that intimacy complicates things, rather than fixes them.

The writing was simple, and you could easily read the book in one sitting. This book is sugary sweet and super fluffy. It is full of declarations of undying love. It's a cute story that would be great for an afternoon at the beach.

    Content: Non-descriptive sex, innuendo

Cover: This cover is super cute and it reflects the book well. It's what initially drew me to the book and it almost makes me want to read it again!

    Below par

I have been a fan of Colasanti since "Take Me There" and her older books first came out. However, lately I have been very disappointed in her writing. Her older books had distinctly unique characters that I very much related to, but now her characters are one dimensional and unrealistic. The events that happen in this book are predictable at best and very boring at the worst. I was very disappointed in this book and unhappy that I wasted the money. Try a Sarah Dessen book.

    Ok.

Susane Colasanti is my favorite author, her stories have always been the ones I looked forward to. I've been reading her books since when I was in about 7th grade to now. This book was kind of a let down.. I couldn't really connect with the characters and Susane Colasanti seemed to be.. well, lacking.. Hopefully her next book will be the Susane Colasanti I remember.

This book is just far too unrealistic for my liking.
I thought I'd like it because of the reviews, but I really didn't. It's too perfect as far as the story goes, not exactly in a good way, and the events are very predictable. The main conflict of the story is resolved veeery quickly, which is a huge downer for me. I feel as if Kara and Jocelyn's fighting was more interesting than the main problem at hand. No, I wouldn't recommend it if you read to be inspired for writing yourself, however I would recommend it if you're looking for some immediate romance.
