Library Journal
In his long-awaited, uproariously funny new novel, Reiner ( Enter Laughing , LJ 4/1/58) pokes fun at a decadent Californian lifestyle while sustaining a well-written tale of love and loss. When Fred and Sharon Cox begin Japanese lessons to prepare for an upcoming vacation, their instructor, Hana Yoshi, becomes lover to both mates. Meanwhile, their teenage son is having an affair with one of the housekeepers, with whom he disappears. Fred's Hollywood production company falters financially. Will Hana come to the rescue by sleeping with an investor? Which Cox will she choose for her own? Only the lively and very entertaining Jewish grandparents in Florida seem to have their feet on the ground in this modern saga. Highly recommended for public libraries, and demand is likely, since the publisher plans heavy publicity.-- Heather Blenkinsopp, Mercy Coll. Lib., Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
