Overview

The New Jersey hard rockers in AKP are sick and tired of corporate metal rockers trying to explain that they know what they're talking about. AKP feels it's all a bunch of garbage, and they are the ones who really know what's up. They compose a tight fusion of rap-rock and alternative metal on their debut album All Kinds of Problems, and the Italian attitude of Seige and Geano makes AKP's tough jaggedness so real. Vocalist Don Black also makes for a harsh sound that fully grasps the album's overall take on societal issues and frustrations. But that is the trend coming in from late-'90s political poster rock (Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam). Songs such as "Addiction" and "Confusion" tackle the inevitability of social problems, but AKP maintains a heavy positivity as well ("Never Say Never"). They might have a riveting opinion, but the song remains the same when it comes to a fresh, rap-metal band that supposedly has a message. It's becoming a bit redundant in the stream of consciousness placated by public ignorance. However, AKP might just be working their way out of that.
