All Loves Excelling: A Novelby Josiah Bunting
- LendMe LendMe™ Learn More
Not since A Separate Peace has the world of prep school and tortured adolescence been portrayed with the sensitivity and authenticity that distinguish this novel by a former headmaster of the prestigious Lawrence-ville School, near Princeton. All loves Excelling is a story of the fierce competition for admission to select colleges, of the equally fierce ambition of parents and school authorities—and how they combine to wreak havoc on one teenager and her family.

I just finished this book an hour ago. It made me cry! Poor Amanda. She never had time to be happy for herself. Always trying to please everyone else. I can relate to her though. I'm alot like her. I've had an eating disorder and depression. Great Book. I reccomend it to anyone.
I just finished this book. I think it was a great book, but at some parts it was hard to follow. But I recommend it to anyone.
Bunting spins a good, if extremely sad story here. I believe the jacket speaks about how much the reader yearns for a solution that is not to be...the futility of it all...and that's very well captured in the novel. The characters are suitably developed, and the especially through the writing style (an omniscent view of the protagonist and the other characters, too), one understands completely the dilemma that ultimately concludes the novel. All together excellent.
