I enjoy most of Linda Howards books, but this one was horrible! I can understand a little arrogence, and can understand a little crying, but this was just laying it on too thick. This was a major crash and burn for Howard. The guy was so pompous you just wanted to kick him! The girl needs her tearducts stopped up too. You know the saying a little crying is good for the soul? Well they should have applied it here instead of going over the top. I hate it when the female charecters are supposed to have backbone and be able to stand on their own and end up whining and blubbering all the time.
'All That Glitters' is an extremely horrible book. The protagonists are unbelievable and hideous people. While Niko is irritating in his arrogance, Jess flounders around until you just want to smack her. The ending is rushed and unapologetic. Linda Howard, whose books are normally fantastic in a world of boring, vapid romance, fails with this book. Thankfully she redeems herself through her later books, such as 'Dream Man', 'Mr. Perfect', and 'Son of the Morning'.
Terrible book until it took a look at the publishing date and realized it was written in the 1980's...where I guess it was ok to beat a woman emotionally into submission, kidnap her and hold her against her will, threaten often to 'choke her' until she shuts up, and then impregnate her, threaten to withhold her kids to make sure she doesn't get a chance to run away!! As for the female in the story, there were moments when it looked like should be would able to stand on her own, but she always consistently caved in and gave up. If she were a friend, I would make sure to take her to a nearby women's shelter or talk her into admitting herself for psychiatric help. Not a good deal would be made for anyone in this story if this uneven romance would be allowed to continue.
I like this book even after reading several years ago. This is a passionate book, intriquing and full of spunk. I did not understand the rating of some of the other reviewers, but if you like spirited women than this is the book for you.
While Linda Howard's books are normally riveting, this is an example of one of her worst early books. Niko is such a m.c.p. that no modern woman would put up with him for any amount of money; Jessie was such a crybaby no man would want her. For a wonderful book, try one of Ms. Howard's more recent books.
Linda Howard's 'All that Litters' is great!...she did it again!..I loved this book ..Along with her many other great romance novels...I was in great suspense to know what was niko's next motive...it was painful!..*s*!...i finished this book within a day like most others (max 2 days) because i can never put a romance novel down once it gets into my hands... and 'All That Litters' was certainly a book I did not let go til the evening!..this is a fanstastic, thrilling, explosive romance novel when these two main characters are put together...sit back and watch them explode!..this book I would rank 'FIVE STARS'!!..#1
