    Terrible Book!!! {{@-@}}

I had to read this book for my Sociology class on Human Sexuality last semester and write a paper on it. Unfortunately, I must have chosen the worst book! I found this book to be ridiculously snotty and ignorant and superficial. Sure, it had a FEW good rules, probably under 10 rules, but the rest were just ridiculous. It's very damning in that it's got a terrible rule of "If you don't follow our rules, you'll never find love or a husband who will love you!!!" My boyfriend and I had some fun reading how idiotic the rules were, because we must have broken just about all the rules and still love each other very much. As a matter of fact, we still joke about it whenever we break stupid rules or make stupid mistakes in general. This was my first time reading a self-help book and I found it to be very pushy... I'm not sure how it's supposed to be, but they're really demanding that you follow EVERY rule as if your life depended on it. What bothered me the most was their idea that you had to be a different person in order to find love, going to the extremes of going under the knife to achieve it. One of its main themes is basically "change who you are in order to win your lover/future husband over" & then "keep that persona up so he will continue to love you throughout your marriage." It seems to me like you're living a lie and on your toes in order to marry someone who may or may not actually love you for who you really are. Here is some sound and simple advice from an 18 year old with a best friend of 3.5 years and boyfriend of one: BE YOURSELF!! Don't be clingy, obviously, but above all, look first for friendship in a man who has integrity, character, honesty, and respect for you. Don't change your looks or your nose or your fashion to please him. He should love you as you are and if he doesn't, then he wouldn't have deserved you in the first place. Good luck to you ladies out there and God bless; (un)fortunately for me, I'm just not a "Rule's Girl"!! Hahahaha... :P

The book every female should be given at birth

I am not sure who told me about this book years ago. By the time I received it & read it I was already in my early 30's. I sure wish someone had given me this book in my early 20's as I wasted many years of having my heart broken for nothing. This book teaches you how to date. It can be a little too much to take especially for a modern day woman but believe me it works! It also took some time to learn & apply these rules effectively and it took a lot of work to undo all the BS that my mother and society had taught me about dating. By the time I started to date my husband I had almost mastered these rules. Now I am happily married to a man who adores & can't live without me. Who knew a book & friends to the rules could provide do much! This is about the 10th time I have repurchased this book as I keep passing it onto the many girls who are in the modern dating world. Get the book, practice forever & enjoy having men flock all over you.

    This Book is Horrible

When I first started it, I was actually into and agreeing with it until it said if you aren't happy with your nose, get a nose job because you are trying to find and please a man. The authors contradicted themselves a lot. Fist they'd say be evasive about a lot of things, then turn around and say be honest. Later they pretty much said be submissive after getting married, but then contradicted themselves by saying continue to play games. I would say there were about 5-10 good rules in this book and the rest were horrible. If you feel you need to read the book, borrow it or go to the library.

    My Favorite Dating Book!

Ok so I have to say it, if you read this book and REALLY do what it says or at least mostly what it says then you will find your guy. I am a 37yr old woman and I have been happily with my boyfriend for 1 year now and we just moved in together a month ago. I am the happiest and most secure in a relationship that I have EVER been and I owe it all to this book. When I first started dating him I followed the rules to a T. I would tell him I wasn't available to go out if he called last minute even though i was sitting home doing nothing. I didn't text/call him 20 times a day. Actually for the first 2-3 months we were only texting a few times a week! Believe me ladies, it wasn't easy but if you find a guy that you think might be worth it follow the rules. If he ends up backing off because you didn't accept his last minute invite or because you didn't answer his last text until 3 hours later then he really isn't that into you. I used the rules to weed out the guys who weren't interested or who I wasn't interested in and then I used the Rules to snag the guy who as I said, I am now living with and talking about buying a house with in 3 years...read it ladies. and then read it again. don't be scared!

The Rules are Right and I've broken them ALL

This book was the most insightful book I have ever read regarding the relationship between men and women. I'm not sure I agree with all of them, but I know that they are right and that I have broken most of them...especially 'Don't Ever Call Him' and No intimacy before Date 3! It's hard to follow the rules when you don't understand why you are following them to begin with. This book tells you not only the rules for dating men, but also why you should follow them and what will happen if you don't! Brilliant! I couldn't put it down until I was finished reading all the rules. Recommended for Single Women! You'll REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

    THE RULES

I read this book as a way to help understand about establishing healthy boundries in relationships. It is interesting how we neglect boundries in our lives at times. What is interesting is how Old Testament scripture talks about boundry stones and how it is wrong to constantly move boundry markers. Think about how constantly moving boundries make it impossible for the land to be uaed to its full potential. So it is as well in our relationships. Boundries are healthy. Boundries, when established in healthy ways for the right reasons, can help relationships to reach their full potentials. This is good for people starting to date. Read it as these are real world examples. It will force you to think about the issues presented. Though it is secular, instead of getting offeneded think about What scripturrs says about the issues raised. Then use the strategies suggested to enforce christian boundries. Then don't mobe the boundry markers! Though this book is secular in examples it is helpful in establishing healthy boundries. The EASILY OFFENDED CHRISTIAN HAS BEEN WARNED! But it is good for a peraon who is starting to date. There are other christian books out there on the subject matter. When finish them I will post. Anyway. Think about it. TTYL Have a nice day.

    I Also Recommend:

    Dating

A reminder of how a woman catches a man. It's everything my mother and grandmother attempted to drilled into my youth. Being a career woman and "educated" you would think that I would know how to handle a man in a personal realationship. Shockingly, I have learned that the way I respond to the male in my career, does not successfully work in my personal life. This books helps me laugh at myself! The Southern Rules should be a REQUIRED read for all southern girls at 16 years of age. The Southern Rules is a MUST READ!

    Timeless advice.

This is a must read for anyone who needs good, solid advice on men and relastionships. It may be a bit old fashioned for some, but I thought the advice was dead-on. I will recommend this to friends.

The Greatest book on dating to help a girl get married and happily for life

This book is so true! Women might not like it at first, or it's hard to believe, but it really works. I know of around 6 woman who used it and did get married very quickly. And like it says, women who get divorced do so because they don't follow the rules.

Could change your point of view on dating.

The Rules is a classic and I've only just begun to uderstand why. It's got a lot of common sense advice that seems to get lost nowadays. I thought it was still relevant and anyone could probably get something out of it.

    Practical Advice For Modern Women

I had read an article about this book in Marie Claire. I was having troubles in my relationship, and decided to try the book out. Basically, you follow pretty common sense rules to avoid being a doormat. It definetly helps to sit and read this book before calling that ex .. or even you're current boyfriend. It puts things in perspective and reminds you that men are an option , not a nessicity. Highly recommended, especially to younger women (18-30).

Every woman should read this book.  All those women who gave it

Every woman should read this book.  All those women who gave it 1 star are the ones who turned American men into wimps with no back bone. Every woman who reads this book will learn how to build self confidence and have some guidance to the scary world of dating.  No matter what your age this book has very valuable advise!
And no, it doesn't force you to change who you are, but rather put your self in check and exercise some self restrains!

Followed 'The Rules' and I'm still single!

I think that this book needs a major upgrade for 2007! I followed these rules and to date I am still single. When I didn't follow them, I got dates galore! Some of the rules are on point and there are some that just left me scratching my head. Read it for yourself and if it helps you out, that's great!
