All-Time Greatest Hits, Vol. 1

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Curb's All-Time Greatest Hits was released two years before Buck Owens allowed Rhino Records to release his catalog in the form of a box set and two compilations. Consequently, the compilation isn't much more than a place-holder -- 12 songs that contain a few of his biggest hits ("Act Naturally," "Streets of Bakersfield, " "I've Got a Tiger By the Tail") plus several lesser-known singles ("Think of Me, " "Big In Vegas"). Although it isn't comprehensive, it's an adequate collection for casual fans on a budget.

    BUCK OWENS ROCKS

Don't let Erlewine scare you off. This Curb album (Vol. I) is great travel CD, perfect for driving through (and past) Bakersfield. The sound is pretty good and it's got plenty of good material on it. My personal favorites, besides Streets of Bakersfield, are Together Again (Sorry, Emmy Lou), Foolin' Around and Excuse Me (I think I've Got a Heartache). There is plenty evidence here of the good songwriting and catchy licks that attracted the Beatles to Buck Owens. Buck Owens rocked.
