Overview

All-Time Legends of Country Music is an excellent cross-section of country classics recorded or owned by Columbia and Epic Records. The 22-track disc spans several decades and styles, from the traditional country of Roy Acuff's "Wabash Cannon Ball" to the outlaw duet of Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson's "Pancho & Lefty." Since there's such a variety of styles, the disc doesn't quite gel as a cohesive listening experience, but there are so many great songs here that it doesn't really matter. It's just nice to have Patsy Montana's "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart," Bob Wills' "Take Me Back to Tulsa," Bill Monroe's "Rocky Road Blues," the Stanley Brothers' "I'm a Man of Constant Sorrow," Carl Smith's "Hey Joe," Flatt & Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Special," Johnny Horton's "Honky Tonk Man," Marty Robbins' "El Paso," Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire," the Statler Brothers' "Flowers on the Wall," Jim & Jesse's "When I Stop Dreaming," Jim & Jesse's "When I Stop Dreaming," Lynn Anderson's "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden," Willie Nelson's "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" and Willie & Merle's "Pancho & Lefty" all in one place.
