Meet the Author

Allen Carr was an accountant and smoked 100 cigarettes a day until he gave up and wrote this bestselling book. He has built a hugely successful network of stop-smoking clinics across the world and is the author of The Only Way to Stop Smoking, How to Stop Your Child Smoking, The Easy Way to Enjoy Flying and The Easyweigh to Lose Weight. In 2004 Allen published his bestselling autobiography Packing It In (Michael Joseph). He was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2006 and died in November of the same year. It seems likely that the years he spent curing smokers in smoke-filled sessions at his clinics must have contributed to this illness, but Allen Carr remained positive; "Given that I am informed that I have cured at least 10 million smokers on a conservative estimation, it's a price worth paying."

Allen Carr’s “Easy Way to Stop Smoking” A Prospective View on Why People Smoke “Easy Way to Stop Smoking” is an optimistic view and inspirational approach method created by Allen Carr to assist people who currently smoke or use tobacco, to quit. If you are a seldom, special occasion or heavy tobacco user/smoker, Carr’s “Easy Way to Stop Smoking” book will not only enlighten you on the reason why you smoke or use tobacco products, it will also influence you to quit. Carr was a heavy smoker for a majority of his life and after several attempts to quit; he discovered an easy way to break the tobacco addiction. Upon his success, he established “Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking Clinics” and wrote numerous books that have been published in fifty different countries and in twenty-six languages. His incredible reputation for success in assisting tobacco users to quit holds the highest success rate in the quit smoking industry. His major goal is to educate smokers on the reason why they smoke. This is much different approach from the standard “why you should quit’ methodology. By exposing the effects of nicotine additives commonly found in most tobacco products, Carr explains the strategies, reasoning, and relationship the drug has to promote smoking. Carr’s details expose the tobacco industry’s strategies to lure people into the smoking addiction. He also describes the targeted audiences in which the tobacco company’s are attempting to capture and the practices that they implement to influence people to smoke. However, the companies are not the only beneficiaries of the revenues; he also expands on how every Government benefits from the sales by imposing sales taxes, which is highly depended on. Why else would they not intervene or regulate the ingredients? Carr further explains the addiction of nicotine, which is common to any other drug dependency. Once you have the chemical in your system, you subconsciously crave for the next dosage. Carr himself smoked a hundred cigarettes a day to fulfill his addiction needs. He insists that if you remove the nicotine dependency, you will no longer have the desire to smoke. He is convinced that “smokers” are brainwashed into believing that they require this drug to function normally. His psychological approach to assist smokers to quit, offers different views and perspectives that are very convincing. He explains the strengths and weakness that you need to apply and overcome to be successful to quit smoking. In reality, it is quite simple and removes the fear of the unknown. His detailed instructions cover all the benefits that a person will enjoy without the need to smoke. In today’s society, smoking is not as attractive as once portrayed in the nineteenth-century. It is not glamorous, healthy or even accepted in most places. Carr’s opposite approach in this book will beyond doubt, capture the attention of every smoker that is trying to quit. His optimistic views and objective is to educate and explain the reason why people smoke. He does not dwell on health issues caused by smoking or any other current scare tactics that are imposed to warn smokers about the harm and effects of smoking. His realistic ideas and methods provide constant reminders of a message that he is trying enforce throughout the book. If the information and guidance is understood, there is no way a person would continue to smoke after reading this book. I am now the 4th Person I know that has quit smoking after reading this book. Two very important points: 1. I believe you must be fairly serious about your desire for stopping 2.Being able to smoke while I was reading was extremely important for the impact of this book. I have smoked 1- 1.5 packs of cigarretts for 17 Years. I set a quit date, ESCAPED from the addiction and am Abslutely certain that I will never smoke again. I have been smoke free for over 3 months and do not crave or feel like I" have survived" three months. I rarely think about it except once in a while and quickly appreciate the fact that I have control and no longer am a slave to it.I have ONLY gained 4 lbs. because I have not substituted anything for the poison. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book for everyone and have already purchased5 copies for all my friends and family. It is great not having to spend $ on replacement therapies, gums, patches, acupuncture, hypnatised etc...and this cost me under $13.00 TOTAL

I was preparing to quit smoking - again - by going on nicotine gum and patches. Since I had already made the decision to quit, there seemed no harm in reading Allan Carr's book, which I found in the library. I actually made the decision to quit once I had finished the book (the same day) and I didn't bother to buy the gum or patches - didn't need to, because by some means which still mystifies me today, I was free of the compulsion to smoke by the time I completed the book. That was three years' ago in July.

Allan Carr is a bad writer and at times an offensive one. It is a testament to the effectiveness of his theories that I finished this book. I was a hardcore smoker who never wanted or tried to quit; I read Carr's book to prove that it couldn't make me quit smoking. I stopped smoking on the day I finished the book and haven't had a puff for the past year and a half.

My partner smoked a pack for 27 years and after trying various methods to give up with no success was resigned to the fact that he may be a smoker for life. Recently, I found the book and read it first. I was so fascinated and amazed at what Allen Carr had to say, I managed to convince my partner to read it! Now he is a non-smoker and tells all his smoking friends about it! He says I have saved his life - but really its a big thanks to Allen Carr!

I quit smoking when my first son was born, My wife did and I couldn't continue, right? He now is 8 years old and we started smoking again two years ago My wife bought the book and on our recent holiday in France I started to read it And indeed I smoked a lot while reading the book, like a last excuse, but then 30 miles from Caen, on our way back we shared our last cigarette, I still have the filter and I'm planning to frame it because I KNOW that that was the last cigarette I ever did smoke You really touched me Allen and I thank you for it

This book changed everything about the way I viewed smoking and gave me the tools I needed to become a successful quitter! 14 months and counting. I was a pack and a half a day smoker who had tried prescriptions/patches/gums, etc to no avail. This absolutely did it for me!

I've just passed my year anniversary since reading the book and escaping cigarettes. Just wanted to help convince nonbelievers that this book is the real deal. It does exactly what the title says: makes it easy to stop smoking. All I did was read the book, and it was like someone flipped a switch in my brain: instant nonsmoker. If you're on the fence about whether to get this book, let me pull you into giving it a try. Hey, it costs less than a couple packs of cigarettes, so why not? It could be one of the best long term values of your life, as it was with me.

I was a committed smoker of 60+ per day for 20yrs. Tried everything but still couldn't stop. Read this book a year ago, and stopped for good. It really was as easy as switching off a light...Best few pounds I ever spent.

OK, lots of nice reviews here. As the 40th reviewer, let me give you mine. 15yr-smoker, 20-30 a day, very cynical, smart and paid enough such that the cost of smoking doesn't ever come into it. This book uses no scare tactics, so do not be afraid to buy this book, it's only the price of a couple of packs. So I read the book a couple of days ago, took my time, ignored anything about 'this is a book you cannot put down'. I appreciated Mr Carr saying that I could continue to smoke as I read his book, so I took a couple of days to read it. Please excuse me as I make my point. I could not move fast enough to get that f***ing s**t out of my life. I threw all my gear straight into the trash can. After completing the book, it took about three f***ing seconds to stop smoking and I cannot wait for 3 days time when that S**t is out of my bloodstream. I do _not_ smoke now, thank you. Thank you Mr Carr, as you promised, I am enjoying the withdrawl symptoms after just a couple of days... Richard, UK.

After many attempts, I can finally say I am done with smoking. I am 7 months smoke free and now cringe at the thought of a cigarette. You still need to exert some control for the first several months, but having read the book, I was better able to do so. Prior to the book, I would have, and did, cave. The book is not well written, but just continue to read it. Hopefully, it will save you too.

I have been a pack to two pack a day smoker for over 30 years and this is first time (out of several) that I have been able to stop smoking without feeling like I was depriving myself of something and without becoming so irritable that I could not stand to be around myself. I have been a non-smoker and nicotine-free for 26 days now and I know I will never be a slave to nicotine again. It is so liberating and so much easier to leave nicotine behind than I ever thought it would be!

6 months later I am still not smoking & with no urges to-even when I am stressed! Smoking used to be my crutch but I am extremely happy to be free of cigarettes. Not only was my health being affected but I simply could not afford to continue smoking. Yet I had no clue how to stop successfully. Take it from me, read the book from cover to cover & do exactly as Allen Carr suggests, do not quit smoking until you finish the book, It really does work!!!!

It works. Stopped smoking after 30 years of 1 pack a day. It totally changes your mind frame from I can't smoke to I don't want to and I'm glad I don't.

I recommend this book to anyone who has ever considered stopping smoking. Mr. Carr really knows how to get into a smoker's mind like no one else because he has been in the same place. You will enjoy reading this. It is not boring and is well worth the time spent reading it.

After reading it and a couple attempts, it "clicked" in my head and smoking is in my past after 22 years.

This book really worked for me and everyone I have recommended it to. (those who actually read it that is!) I had tried the patch, cold turkey, and the gum with no success and I am so proud to say I stopped smoking 2 years ago!
