If you buy this great book I absolutely implore you to purchase the Really Rosie soundtrack (words straight from this and other Sendak books, music and singing by the great Carole King). Or at least the Schoolastic Video that contais that same song. I learned this song from beginning to end one night and then sang it to my son all the time. Now he is two and can recit the entire alphabet and say the letters to this song while I sing it. And it is SO much mor efun than just the basic ABC song. We can act out the silly gestures and he has SO much fun belting out each letter!

Granted I shouldn't expect much for a $6.00 book but I would have purchased a board book for my $6.00 rather than buy a book that reminds me of the horoscope booklets at the grocery store checkout (it's softcover and measures 4' x 6'). I like the alphabet and was surprised to see MY name was in the book. If I had known that was an option I would have requested my daughter's name - not mine. The alphabet itself is quite cute and would recommend a hardcover or board book but not the softcover.

Although it is recommended for older children, my two-year old loves this book. It is refreshing to hear 'very vain' for the letter V and 'x-ing x's' for X instead of violins and xylophones. We like that the book is full of new vocabulary words and is not condescending.
