Barnes & Noble - Mark Schwartz
His first Spanish-language album since 1998, Almas del Silencio brings a Ricky Martin with a little something to prove. Sure, he's still an international superstar, but the Latin Boom on which his multiplatinum English-language debut rode to the top has lost its Q rating, and Martin's follow-up, Sound Loaded, was a disappointing seller. So Ricky sticks to what he knows, and the fans who knew him back when he was just a Menudo. That's indicated by the single, the billowy rock ballad "Tal Vez," which could be delivered by a Juan Gabriel or Laura Pausini as easily as Señor Bon Bon. Fittingly, Martin gets an assist from some of Latin pop's most bankable -- and ...

So Ricky sticks to what he knows, and the fans who knew him back when he was just a Menudo. That's indicated by the single, the billowy rock ballad "Tal Vez," which could be delivered by a Juan Gabriel or Laura Pausini as easily as Señor Bon Bon. Fittingly, Martin gets an assist from some of Latin pop's most bankable -- and sophisticated -- stars: Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, and Ricardo Arjona. and While there are some up-tempo numbers, to be sure, this introspective international style seems to be what Martin's after, saying that "Livin' La Vida Loca" is no longer his bag. "I lived it. I loved it. But it's the past," the singer explained to the Associated Press. Fans, especially those who have followed his career over the past decade, will stick with him. As for the mainstream crowd, the single's title, "Tal Vez" -- perhaps -- says it all.
All Music Guide - John Bush
Similar to jazz artists, Latin pop singers can move back and forth between audiences, exploring new terrain with a crossover album and then returning home to the faithful with a more traditional date. Almas del Silencio, Ricky Martin's first Spanish record in five years, actually offers something for all of his widely varying audiences, from Jalisco to Hartford. The opener "Jaleo" is a kitchen-sink performance, boasting Spanish guitar but also a few biting metal chords, a deep bottom end for dance fans, and a yearning, romantic vocal. The single "Tal Vez" is pure ballad territory, with an army of strings and Martin struggling to pull off a histrionic performance. He breaks out with some subtle vocal feats on the digital-age Emilio Estefan, Jr. production "Jamas," and also sounds great during the other dance track, "Besos de Fuego." There's something here for everyone.
New York Times
If his two English efforts were largely about the fiesta, the reflective Almas looks at life after the revelers have long gone home.

The Latin King of pop is back!

Ricky is back with an amazing album, full of colors and rhythms. Pure joy! Some of the songs will not let you sit still with their intoxicating rhythms, some songs will touch your soul, and make you think about the important things in life. The music is amazing! This album has something for every one. There are latin flavors, some rock, middle eastern, reggae and more. Ricky's pours his heart and soul into the album and his deliviery of the songs is sincere, sensual and touching. What a talent! Do not miss this jem of an album!

    Same rythem and arrangements.......

The words in the lyrics are all well written and beautiful, as with all of Ricky's songs. However I was a little dissapointed, hoping there was more new rythem and arrangements in beats and wanted to hear more percussion instruments. Thought most of the CD's songs all sounded very similar in style. Though love Ricky no matter what, so dedictated fan purchased his CD. He is one of the very few male solo singers out there singing in both English and Spanish.

    AT LAST

I am a very big fan of Ricky Martin. I was waiting patiently for this new CD. It was well worth waiting for! I don't speak or understand Spanish but it is still very enjoyable just the way it is. I love when he sings in Spanish. I would love to know how to get the translation. My biggest dream would be to see him in concert! Can you help me? Susan

    Papi Chulo Es Back!!

Ricky Martin's comeback as a spanish artist couldnt have come in a better time...New look, new music. I listened to the songs and well let me just say that where ever he was for the past 3 years it helped...After his not so well selling english album "Sound Loaded" he returns fully recharged and with a new sense in music..."Tal Vez" has become a smashing hit single and I think there is yet more to expect from him....
