From Los Angeles and New York to Chicago and Miami, street gangs are regarded as one of the most intractable crime problems facing our cities, and a vast array of resources is being deployed to combat them. This book chronicles the astounding self-transformation of one of the most feared gangs in the United States into a social movement acting on behalf of the dispossessed, renouncing violence and the underground economy, and requiring school attendance for membership.
What caused the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation of New York City to make this remarkable transformation? And why has it not happened to other gangs elsewhere? David C. Brotherton and Luis Barrios were given unprecedented access to new and never-before-published material by and about the Latin Kings and Queens, including the group's handbook, letters written by members, poems, rap songs, and prayers. In addition, they interviewed more than one hundred gang members, including such leaders as King Tone and King Hector. Featuring numerous photographs by award-winning photojournalist Steve Hart, the book explains the symbolic significance for the gang of hand gestures, attire, rituals, and rites of passage. Based on their inside information, the authors craft a unique portrait of the lives of the gang members and a ground-breaking study of their evolution.

This book talks about The King Nation of New York which to begin with is all too Confusing. If your a gang how are you trying to do something good. If thats your case call yourself a Organization. Not to mention have a Leader who use to be a Ex-Heroin addict. If readers really want to know about Latin Kings and gangs. Read 'My Bloody Life'
this is a very good book it talks about the gang life and how their formed. if u like drugs sex and violence then this is your type of book to read.
The Kings are Evolving As The Irish Did Before them. The first gangs in America were Irish and as they evolved out of poverty and disenfrancisement into a power base and structre they evolved out of gangdom into assilimation and a true power base. This is taking place with the Kings and this book chronicles this transformation that should be studied and used as a model to help similar groups throughout the country. Congradualtions Kings, you will only be free though until your crime rings and elements move out of those old gangster notions. The Irish realized this and put their own in the White House.
Alot of people say the Latin Kings are a gang. We are not. If you looked at why we came up, you will see our principles are different than any others. We are an organization for the simple fact that we are organized. Many kings do not live and think like kings. Nobody is an angel. Some kings and queens do what they do for their choice but they are punished for their wrong doings. Other like myself and my tribe do the best we can for latinos. Even in monarch times...there were god kings but there we also tyrants...1.4.18
The book is a great source to open your acknowledgement towards Kings in the world. But, one thing is for a fact it could say whatever it wants to say. But, you have to be a King or a Queen to understand wher we coming from.I'm not saying that all Kings are perfect but is the truth. Some Kings kill some just want to do the right thing. But the worsest part of all is that if something happens we are soon to be blame just because some people use our color. But those people are fake even some people that are in the family are fake. But like I said don't judge if you don't know... Thank You.... A.D.R. 360 4 Lyfe Baby
