Dave Currick was everything Matty wanted for as along as she could remember. Right up until he broke her heart six years ago. Now that she’s returned to Wyoming for good, what she wants more than anything is to save her family’s ranch. Even if that means swallowing her pride and asking Dave to marry her.
Matty’s up to something – Dave knows that for sure. Just as he knows that Matty needs help, so of course he’ll provide it, as he has all her life. Doing what’s best for Matty is second nature. Even when it comes to marrying her in name only.
Although he can’t resist one kiss after the I-dos -- a kiss as fiery as the flame-red Indian Paintbrush that's always reminded him of Matty.
Maybe – just maybe – his Matty will become more to him than Almost a Bride.

One of the (many) reasons I like reviewing romance novels is that I don't have to worry about spoiling the ending. We all know what the ending will be-must be or it wouldn't be a romance. Indeed, we know that Almost a Bride will end with impulsive Matty Brennan marrying steady Dave Currick. In fact, I knew that after reading the first 35 words-and I knew, to boot, that Matty would wind up saving her beloved Flying W Ranch. Right now, I have to say I loved the story, lest my opening paragraph loses readers. That paragraph is true, but it might make Patricia McLinn's novel sound ... But, no, anything but that. You see, what counts in a romance is the journey, not the destination. And what a journey this was, with surprising twists and turns in every chapter! I love twists-which is fortunate, because Almost a Bride almost turned me into a Bavarian pretzel. To begin with, Matty and Dave get married to begin with-in Chapter 2, three days after meeting for the first time in six years. Well, that's not exactly true-it's a half twist. Dave marries Mattie, but Mattie isn't really married to Dave. She won't really marry him because he loves her too much? So maybe Dave needs a knock on the head so he won't love Mattie excessively. There's nothing sure in Almost a Bride until almost the end. You never know. But in the end, she might marry her husband for real. Her husband? You know, that guy she has the irresistible hots for. There's much more to tell about this wonderful, wacky, sexy couple, but I'm not giving any more away. I will tell you that on every other page, these two lovable people put each other through the romance wringer and turn the crank. So, if you love to laugh; love to cry; or love to laugh and cry at the same time, then you'll definitely want to read Almost a Bride.

Matty and Dave's story is sweet and full of sexual tension. This almost 500 page read keeps you hooked and entertained. There are two books to follow in this trilogy

Not at all what I would normally read, and even less purchase! The first book I read from this author was a Free Friday Book... and I liked the fresh, easy reading, relaxing book... This "romantic novel" was so new for me,I expected a soggy, bland, and boring book ! Well I was wrong! The freshness of the author touched me, and I was so compelled that I had to purchase the other books and read them all ! Sometimes you have to change your habits.. Nicely written, even if you can anticipate the story. The personages are so sympathetic, that you really want to know what happens next, and stops you to put the book down. THANKS B & N... Thanks to PATRICIA McLINN!

For a free book, this kept my attention and was a fairly long story. Its a mix of western with romance which is every country girls dream. There are a lot of twists and turns in the book and you find yourself getting lost in the story. If you're looking for something to read that's lighthearted and will keep you interested I would highly recommend this book.

Her attorney Taylor Anne Larson tells Matty Brennan that her Flying W Ranch is in financial trouble due to poor estate planning. The lawyer suggests selling some of the property, but being the last of her family, she refuses to sell out her ancestors. Instead, Matty decides to sell out herself by offering to marry Dave Currick so she can receive a financial grant. Dave and Matty negotiate, but in reality, he is pleased she turned to him.

At their wedding, Dave kisses Matty in such a way that she can hardly breath. She realizes she still loves the man who dumped her six years ago and believes he loves her too. So why did he drop her the first time around and why is he agreeing to marry her now?

ALMOST A BRIDE is a fun to read ranch romance that stars two lively characters. The story line may follow sub-genre guidelines, but it retains freshness due to the interrelationship between Matty and Dave. Be on the lookout ¿s next tale in ¿The Wyoming Wildfire¿ series, MATCH MADE IN WYOMING.

I loved this story and would like to read more works by this author. This is the first book that I have given 5 stars. I was happy it was free also. Although some of the actions of the main characters were silly, it was believable because human nature is often silly. I enjoyed the story line and highly recommend this to other readers.

Matty and Dave... in love six years ago. Are they now??? I enjoyed reading the story of loving a second time. The author did a great job! I generally dislike cliffhangers because they leave you. I know that there will be new stories but I am sure that the stories will center on Lisa or Taylor finding love. Maybe with Cal? Great writing style and fun...

I was torn between giving this 2 stars instead of 3 due to its horrendous lack of imagination, but the author is a better writer than a 2. The problem is that instead of coming up with a book that has an actual plot, she has chosen to follow a very boring formula. Man lusts for woman. Woman tries to hide lust for man but gives in for a kiss.  Man lusts for woman. Woman tries to hide lust for man but gives in for a longer kiss. Man lusts for woman. Woman tries to hide lust for man  but allows him to cop a feel. Man lusts for woman. Woman goes for it but gets interrupted. Man lusts for woman....ad nauseum.  The author has the potential of writing something worth reading, but she hasn't achieved that here.

Not boring at all. Refreshing to read a romance novel that is romantic and not sleezy.

This was a good story and I enjoyed reading it. What I didread. I didn't finish just my preference in not liking to read about detailed, constant love scenes. Just so you know, if you like that read it I was excited about the book and it shpuld finish well. If you din't like me, just letting you know.

How do past loves grow beyond hurt and pain? By opening your heart again to trust and love. Matty and Dave needed to grow up and listen, really listen to each other. Things can grow in the darndest places. Fun story of reaquainting themselves and needing a push from family and friends. On to book 2

I received this book free from the Author and chose to write an honest review Matty Brennan left her high paying PR job in Chicago to move to Wyoming when she inherited the Flying W Ranch from her great uncle. She also inherited all of its associated debts. She wants to bring the ranch back up to its former glory and applies for a grant so she could do all the work. She needs to establish an irrigation system as well as repair many of the fences around the ranch. When her grant application is denied, she decides to ask her childhood sweetheart, Dave Currick, to marry her. Dave is surprised and pleased with the request. He has loved Matty since they were children, although they had seen very little of each other since they were both in college. Their marriage is very unusual. Matty says she want a platonic relationship, but keeps feeling the old attraction and love she has had for Dave since she was 3 and wanted to go fishing with him. Dave is trying to respect her wishes, but the same old feelings are there for him as well. Will they find a way to maintain the charade of a loving relationship while resisting the natural attraction and love they both feel? Why did Matty want to marry Dave? Was it for his money? Would he have loaned her the necessary funds if she had asked? It is a nice loving story with enough friction to make an interesting situation. There are contributing characters to provide suspense and details of location enough to make you want to visit Wyoming. Well written with location details, believable characters, and enough twists to keep the story interesting and make the reader want the sequel right away.

This is a delightful story that makes it hard to put down. The two main characters are both opinionated and stubborn. This creates many ups and downs as Mattie and Dave decide whether they are together now because of who they were growing up together or because they love the people they have become after a 6 year separation. Maddie's stubborness got to be a little aggravating but what would a romance be without ups and downs? If you enjoy the small town, ranch, cowboy, romance premise, you should enjoy this novel. I did!

This is a sweet love story but overused plot. Just ok.
