As part of the marketing campaign for the Tim Burton-directed Alice, the Walt Disney Company commissioned this various-artists album, which might as well be called "Songs from, Inspired by, or Related to Alice," but is instead dubbed Almost Alice. The idea was to have a collection of pop

As part of the marketing campaign for the Tim Burton-directed Alice, the Walt Disney Company commissioned this various-artists album, which might as well be called "Songs from, Inspired by, or Related to Alice," but is instead dubbed Almost Alice. The idea was to have a collection of pop
ock performers come up with material having something to do with Alice in Wonderland, including, as the lead-off track, Avril Lavigne's "Alice," which actually plays under the end credits of the movie. Lavigne's song is a typical piece of self-assertive adolescent pop
ock, with its tag line "Don't you try to stop me," just the sort of thing to be chanted by a pre-adolescent who doesn't want to go to bed. Like many other tracks here, it seems ideally suited for heavy rotation on Radio Disney. The songs tend to have sledgehammer hooks as simple as schoolyard chants, all the better to be bellowed from the backseats of mini-vans across America. There are a few oddities, however. The Cure's Robert Smith, one of several singers moonlighting from his group (there's also a duet by Mark Hoppus of blink-182 and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy), turns in a cover of the Sammy Fain/Bob Hilliard song "Very Good Advice" from the 1951 Disney animated film Alice in Wonderland, and Grace Potter & the Nocturnals perform a version of "White Rabbit" close to Jefferson Airplane's 1967 original. Back in the day, that song was castigated for its supposed drug references; more than 40 years on, it's probably included to give grandparents a reason to smile.

    Alice

I love all the muscians who came together on this album! Great variety. I like how they put a new twist on an old fable. I dont think you would be disappointed on this purchase, especially if you seen the movie and LIKED it. :-)

Beautiful and On Point Songs in Almost Alice!

I love this soundtrack. I have been playing it in my car, imagining hosting a tea party and having visitors arrive to the tune that shouts out "Welcome to the tea party!" Other songs evoke the rhymes in the original book. It's fun to listen to.

    Lots of diversity

Overall, I really enjoy this cd. Includes several genres of music, and many great artists. There are a few songs I personally don't like, but for the most part it is well worth the price. I have recommended it to several people, who purchased it, and also really enjoy it. It definetly has an "Alice in Wonderland" vibe to it.

    I liked it.

It's not the official soundtrack, it's songs based on / inspried by the movie. It's a nice combination of really peppy songs and slower songs.

    ALMOST ALICE

MY DAUGHTER LOVES THIS CD, SHE HAD ME DOWNLOAD IT ON HER IPOD. SHE IS SINGING ALONG TO ALL THE SONGS, SHE LISTENS TO ALL THE SONGS, NOT JUST ONE OR TWO.

    Loved the music!

I wish more of the music on this CD had been used in the movie. Although reviewers did not give this CD high praises, I loved the fun play on the Alice theme. I am not usually a rock or pop music fan, but from the moment I was able to sample the songs on this CD, I knew I wanted to purchase it.

    Pretty cool

I bought this on a whim after having seen the movie. I think the artists are all pretty different and unique but at the same time somewhat cliche. I love the idea of songs inspired by the classic story of "Alice." This makes for very original music and a whole lotta creativity!

I think Avril Lavigne's "Alice," which was also the most heavily marketed song on the album, does a great job exuding the feeling of Alice herself. This is one track I can listen to again and again.

I was a little disappointed that Owl City did not get the chance to record an original Alice-inspired track for the album. There is an asterik next to their track "The Technicolor Phase" bringing attention to the fact that this was a track from one of their albums and not an original. It is very good however I just wish they had an original on here.

Kerli does a good job with her original song and her collaboration with Tokio Hotel. Not the best on the album but original and quirky.

Robert Smith's "very good advice" is one of the best on the album, remaking the song from Disney's classic animated film. It is reinvented slightly more quirkily and is a little more fun. I love this one.

3OH!3's contribution is true to their style; a fun dance song.

Those are my favorites; there are a couple other good ones. Mostly emo pop-rock and some fun, less emo songs make up the album. The artists are all pretty unique and different, but at the same time they are all of a somewhat similar genre, with the exception of Owl City, 3OH!3 and Robert Smith being in their own unique categories (different fan-base). Overall this is a fun, whimsical album that is worth buying if you like soundtracks and especially if you enjoyed the movie and love the classic story. It's fun seeing what these artists came up with being inspired from one of the most beloved and inspiring stories of all time.
