Overview

Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite is a double-album set that captures Elvis' celebrated live television concert from 1973. Arguably, it also captures the peak of Presley's live extravaganzas of the '70s. Spanning two albums and 30 songs, the record finds Elvis pulling out all the stops, running through a set that favors covers and new material at the expense of classics. That's hardly a complaint, since the whole point of his concerts in the '70s was a sensory onslaught, where a bluesy (albeit over-the-top) version of "C.C. Rider" could sit next to a schmaltzy show-stopper like "American Trilogy." And the key to the whole thing is that Elvis actually sounds more committed to "American Trilogy" than to "C.C. Rider." That passion and energy is carried over to each song, and that's what makes the entire enterprise so entertaining. It's also why the record was a massive hit upon its release and why so many fans have fond memories of Aloha From Hawaii decades after the actual concert. [The video edition contains bonus tracks.]

I have loved all of Elvis's records since I can remember. I have his albums, his 45's and 33's, and on cassette. Since newer cars won't play the cassette's, you have to buy CD's. That is what I am doing. I have always loved Elvis' records and I have a slew of them. He has a great voice and will always be on my No. 1 list always.

In my opinion, this is one of the best performances ever from Elvis! Each song captivates and carries me back to some of my favorite times in my life. The American Triology delivers all personal expression of my true American heritage! This collection is the best!

From the beginning introduction, to ''Suspicious Minds'', to the slower ''I'll Remember You'', and the ending ''Can't Help Falling In Love'', the good melody of songs never stop. The fast tempo of ''Burning Love'' excites the listener, while the much slower ''My Way'' still keeps you listening as the quality of Elvis' voice takes center stage. The album itself is a landmark of a phenominal live performance and the crowd really never seems to calm down from Elvis' first presence. The kissing of girls, the throwing of scarfs, even the wiping of sweat on a tissue are all evident and contribute to the fun of listening to this album. Elvis clearly moves above the silly movie songs and focuses on ones he really cares about, as evident with ''American Trilogy.'' A big added bonus is the ongoing stage presence of backup singer J. D. Sumner whose voice mixes in great with all the songs.
