Editorial Reviews

Layers of Thought
"A romantic and emotional journey of an abused woman and her path towards healing - all within a vampire urban fantasy. With much angst within the pages one sees into the emotional travails; caring and empathizing with some characters while loathing others. Marissa Farrar does a fine job of showing the reader her character’s complexities in a easy and readable and page-turning manner.I give this romantic and redemptive vampire novel a 4 stars. It was grand!" ~ Layers of Thought.
Taliesin Meets the Vampires
"Alone has...a violence, brutality and evil more pernicious for being real..."
Sweet Vernal Zephyr
"This feels like real life. No neat packages tied up with strings. Just the truth, as much as you can bear it."

Meet the Author

Marissa Farrar is a multi-published fantasy and horror author. She was born in Devon, England, has travelled all over the world, and has lived in both Australia and Spain. She now resides in the countryside with her husband, two children, a crazy Spanish dog, two rescue cats and six hens and ten goldfish. Despite returning to England, she daydreams of one day being able to split her time between her home country and the balmy, white sandy beaches of Spain.Even though she’s been writing stories since she was small and held dreams of being a writer, her initial life plan went a different way.In her youth, inspired by James Herriot, she decided to become a vet, and would regularly bring home new pets to her weary parents. Upon discovering her exams were never going to get her into a veterinary degree, she ended up studying Zoology. Once she completed her degree and realised she’d spent the majority trying to find time to write, she decided to follow her dream of being an author. Seven years later, she was published and two years after that she was able to say goodbye to the day job. However, she’s continued to collect animals!Marissa is the author of four novels, including the dark vampire ‘Serenity’ series. Her fifth novel, Underlife, a dark fantasy set beneath the streets of London, will be published August 2012.Her short stories have been accepted for a number of anthologies including, Their Dark Masters, Red Skies Press, Masters of Horror: Damned If You Don’t, Triskaideka Books; and 2013: The Aftermath, Pill Hill Press. If you want to know more about Marissa, then please visit her website at marissa-farrar.blogspot.com. Wonderful Book! Not at all what I expected!

Ended very sad but was a great read! Read in two days, with interruptions. Engaging. Looking forward to reading more from this author and hope there's a sequel! Can't go wrong with this free book!

    Highly recommended

The depth of feelings that was portrayed with the main characters kept me guessing and I did not want to put the book down.

    Good Read

Not at all what I expected. Throughout the entire storyline, I did not know what was giing to happen next. It kept me guessing until the end. It was a bit somber, but more so somberly victorious? Overall, it wasn't the now trending vampire read of a sex depraved main character who falls for a mind readinng vampire. I liked it, and I would read other works from this author.

Alone is a nice suspenseful book. I recommend this book highly though I wasn't pleased with the ending. It is a worthwhile book overall and a must read!

    Suprising - easy read

This book was a pleasure from the first few paragraphs. Less predictable than imagined with a unique vampire character type. You'll find likeable characters with flawless writing that doesn't attempt to wow (bore?) the reader with seldom used, ill-fitting words. Well done, thank you!

    Alone - Vampires for Adults

I read Anne Rice and her vampires of New Orleans and then Twilight and was so disappointed at the wishy washy characters of Twilight and then I read Alone and was not disappointed. The characters and plot had real depth and didn´t just cover the usual swooning girl in love with the handsome vampire scenario which seems to be more and more the case these days. This was much darker and the pace faster. I did have a favourite character though and it wasn´t the two main characters but the female vampire with real attitude and a penchant for handbags. A girl after my own heart. Just waiting for the sequel now.

Don't expect a happy ending; this isn't that kind of book -- However, this is an excellent portrayal of a broken, battered wife who kicks her way free. Her path is bumpy, she has setbacks, and ultimately she does not run but crawls into a new life. The power of this book is the emotional journey our "heroine" and her vampire "friend" take as they both find that they have lots to learn about themselves. I found several uniquely British terms used here, but my NookColor looked them up straight away and I was not taken out of the story for long! In case you're wondering, this is a full-length Novel of about 600 pages.

    Great page turner!

The realism of the violence in this book was disturbing - in a good way! It made me want to jump into the book and beat the main characters husband! Although it is a urban fantasy/romance, there was much about it that was very real and I read the book within a couple of sittings. Great novel.

    Read this before the book

This book was good. Not that great though. I would recommend this to a mature person since there are sex scenes. I also did not like how Jackson was involved with porn. Another downer was Serenitys personality. I really dont like weak people like her. Im fine with crying every once in a while but she was just whiny. She cried every time her life wasnt perfect. But the book was good. Hope this helped! 16+ content.
