Finally A Book About Polk County

Aside from the political pieces which I found one sided this is a great book. I've been living in Polk County Florida for 66 years and this is the first book that made me feel proud where I live, thank you Jeffrey Langer!

    Provocative and Engrossing

Publishers Weekly does not often review poetry or lryical books, however, we feel this book deserves recognition. 'Along The Road To Heaven' is a rare book written for intellectual satisfaction. We don't often review obscure works, but this one is unique with realistic virtues that are smart, provocative, and engrossing!

    Pure Perfection

Even if no one else ever sees this book, I am delighted and grateful that it exists so that one day I may show it to my grandchildren. It is perfection on paper, 'Along The Road To Heaven' is an intimate look into the life of America's greatest treasure, it's country folk. This book shows the mystical, spiritual, & enigmatic immortality of country people from all walks of life. It's a heart warming ode from one friend to another. We get a peek into people's personal lives with unflinching honesty. I recommend this book to all!

    High-Octane Book

This off beat and at times angry book is filled with hefty words aimed to emotionally challenge a numb world and it works. The various songs are artistically significant. But there are also tender musings and romantic lyrics that are understated yet memorable. But what is most striking is Jeffrey Langer's lyrics about the horrors of war and President Bush these images will stay with me forever.

Along The Road To Heaven: Songs and Poems about Polk County Florida

I've read this book and it just flat out stinks when compared to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. I'm not sure what some people saw in this book but it stinks and I don't like it. Stick to your guns!

Along The Road To Heaven: Songs and Poems about Polk County Florida

This book has to be one of the worst books ever. I truly can't stand the writing style, it's as if the author has a chip on his shoulder and never connects with his audience. -Sticktoyourguns

    A poignant, eye-opening book!

This is a poignant, eye-opening book, written so stunningly that the reader regrets having arrived at the last very page. This is a deeply wise and uplifting lyrical masterpiece that deserves to be not only read but every word savored.

    A Revelation!

After reading this book I believe I've read some of the most powerful lyrics since Bob Dylan. Mr. Langer's innovative words sing to us from the first to the last page. It is true this book is for a muture audience, however I caution those who are younger to give the lyrics some time to sink in. In a world where words are meant to shock, Mr. Langer's words are written to strike the heart and soul, and that's a very rare and precious thing.

Bravo!!!! A fantastic ground breaking book!

This is a outstanding book of thought provoking often startling poems and songs. They are part confessional and part living histories that I found most enlightening. Mr. Langer's book is still in my thoughts after finishing the book over a week ago. It's a book few authors have the talent to write or the guts for most publishers to take on. Bravo!!!!

    Original and Outstanding

Mr. Langer has an acute awareness of words that move people. His lyrics are not exactly country music but a mixture of country themes and brillant life stories. This is not a mainstream title but a brave work of art, perfect for those who want to read something they haven't seen before and my never see again.

Move over Dylan, Springsteen, and Garth Brooks

Along the Road to Heaven are Songs and poems that tell stories of real people their hopes, dreams, fears, and triumphs. Being from Polk County I found this book a revelation for me and country people everywhere. Mr. Lang began listening predominately to country music and evangelists on the radio. A short time later he realized these outside influences were changing the nature of his words and themes. For nine months he lived in Polk County the rest of the time he lived with his father and brother after separating with his long time girl friend. The selections picked for this book reflect my life, my family, and friends. They come from real people and true-life events. The songs/poetry in this book were inspired by people he knows and I know. The songs are about the Cast Of Characters that have been in and out of his life for the past year. They are an interpretation of my friends words, their tears, their hopes and yes their fears, but also their optimism, faith in god and love of life. It celebrates the human spirit that begins our everyday and never goes away. Be well. I recommend this book to country folks from coast to coast!

A book about life and death and everything in between!

This non-fiction book deals with subjects often overlooked in literature. I found Mr. Langer's stories of blue collar country folks frank and refreshing. I can't stop thinking there's a folk quality to these stories that taps our emotions to the very core. 'Along The Road to Heaven' is a unsual collection of true stories told from the heart, sometimes with brutal honesty other times with a sense of playfulness that has me reading and re-reading this book to my students. As I High School educator I highly recommend this thought provoking book.

    Spellbinding!

I spent my life writing and reviewing song lyrics for nearly 20 years. A writer friend of mine recommended 'Along The To Heaven' so last week I picked up a copy and was amazed. Few authors would dare to write about country back roads with such honesty. This dynamic lyrical book challenges the reader with profound images. I celebrate Mr. Langer's ground breaking book and recommend this book to all my readers.

'Along The Road to Heaven' is a pure delight because it is inspired by real people. Mr. Langer has accomplished what modern lyrics and poetry don't often achieve, he makes the reader feel raw love, joy, and unabated jubalation.

    A reviewer

Recently my company downloaded a series of books from Barnes and Noble and this title caught my eye. 'Along The Rpad To Heaven' tells some remarkable stories that are brave and bold. It discusses the human struggle and Mr. Langer gives the reader a naked look at life, making this book unique. Even though there are many country songs in 'Along The Road To Heaven' this book appeals to a diverse and sophisticated audience.
