Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Twelve small booklets for little hands are in this early learning set, which is a part of the "My First Bob Books" series of sets. In the alphabet set, each booklet focuses on two or three alphabet letters and letter sounds. An upper case and lower case form of the letter along with pictures of items that begin with the initial letter are displayed. For the letter, B, the letters (upper and lower case), pictures of a bear and birds along with the word below the picture are shown. After the letter page is an alliterative sentence. There are simple, black-line drawings with one color accenting the pictures. The last pages combine the featured characters for the alphabet letters, in a final event. At the back of the booklet there is a summary of the words used with the featured letters and it includes additional items that begin with the featured letters that can be found among the illustrations. On the inside front cover are some tips about the letter sounds. For instance, there is an attempt to stay with short vowel sounds at the beginning of the word; however, readers will find some long vowel sounds. Included in the set is a list of some helpful information and tips while reading the booklets with a child. Important to remember is to have fun learning and to include lots of wonderful children's literature. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung

    A "Big Boy" Surprise

I use this bookset with my 3 yo grandson at bedtime. He picks a picture book to read and I pick one of these short "letter intros" to the ABCs. Last night he picked out all the letters *he* wanted to read...choosing the letters in his name. He is 3 yrs 2 mo old and is growing in self confidence about knowing the ABCs. Bravo to this series. I used it to teach his older brother to read seven years ago and it still works great!

    Great for Traveling

These books are so thin I can select what letters I want to work with my kids I can pack them into my purse or my children backpack. They come in handy while on the train or in a waiting area.

Alphabet (My First Bob Books Series)

This Box of Alphabet books is very helpful in teaching my preschooler how to recognize the lowercase and uppercase letters. She is also recognizing new words by sight and is able to tell me the sounds each letter makes just from me reading the books to her. She turned 4 last May and she does not go to preeschool, because I can't afford it right now. However, since I purchased the books we have focused on three books a week; each book is very short. She now knows all her letters, upper and lower case. I make her write them afterwards so she can also write all of her letters upper and lowercase down. She also can read certain words by sight that were in the book, i.e. (apple, ant). The box of books is small and convenient I put it in my purse and take it with us wherever we go. I'm confidant she will be well prepared for kindergarten when she turns five now and she may even be reading on her own at the rate she has learned in just a few months. The best thing about it is I didn't have to spend a load of money to teach her.
