Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Yellow plastic ducks challenge readers to identify items in each scene that begins with the letters shown at the top of the page. The answers are printed upside down at the bottom of each page. The scenes are varied. We see ducks at the beach, in the garden, in a toy store, and at the zoo. The little yellow ducks have expressions and often are dressed to match the scene. There is even humor, especially looking at the ducks in sheep's skins, dressed in zebra stripes, splashing in the foam at the beach, or playing on the xylophone. Kids could be challenged to find the one or two scenes where the ducks are not yellow and to name the colors represented. Parents and caregivers can probably think of other ways to extend the lesson beyond the book and the items depicted. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
