Der Göttinger Sänger beschreibt dabei in seinem Song ein Bild der Männlichkeit, in dem sich jeder vermeintlich wahre Mann wiederfinden kann.
Fast zwanzig Jahre später erscheint das Buch „Warum Männer nicht zuhören und Frauen schlecht einparken" von Barbara und Allan Pease. Sie schreiben den einzelnen Geschlechtern bestimmte Eigenschaften zu und sind dabei, laut Untertitel, der Ansicht, dass dies naturgegeben sei.
In der Gesellschaft herrschen also ganz genaue Vorstellungen über Männlichkeit und Weiblichkeit vor und nicht nur die breite Öffentlichkeit beschäftigt sich mit Fragen wie, was denn nun ein „wahrer" Mann bzw. eine „wahre" Frau ist, sondern auch die wissenschaftliche Forschung hat diese und ähnliche Fragen zum Gegenstand zahlreicher Diskussionen gemacht.
Schaut man in die Vergangenheit, so wird einem sehr schnell bewusst, dass die Vorstellungen von Männlichkeit und Weiblichkeit Konstruktionen und somit auch veränderbar sind und schnell wird klar, dass in Publikationen, wie in der von Allan und Barbara Pease nur Klischees und Vorurteile beschrieben werden, was sicherlich den Ein oder Anderen amüsiert, aber nicht der Realität entspricht.
