    For those looking for alternative firing techniques this book is a good place to start. One of the nice things about this book is that it includes a list of things that you will need should you decide to build anyone of the listed kilns. Another nice thing about this book is that, besides the raku kiln, all the other kilns can be made with 'household' hand tools and materials. I use 'household' loosely, for instance the drum firing requires half of a 55 gallon drum, but it's not like you have to buy one from NASA or anything. For the raku kiln you need a propane burner and some knowledge about how to work with propane and its various hardware. Other than that the rest of the kilns are pretty much 'easy as pie' to put together and fire. It also has some great photos of what can be done with each technique as well as recipes for some of the glazes and other affects that the various potters we able to achieve using these 'alternative' kilns.

    Alternative Kiln Firing

    I had just started clay and pottery making when I purchased this book and it has been a world of help! It has taught me many things about the firing processes of kilns and also inspired me to try some alternative kilns this summer. I can't wait to use this book more, it's very useful! I would recommend it to any potter.

    Great Book!

    Hi Everyone,
    I bought this book for my son who is a very skilled, but young potter. He looses interest easily, gets bored, but makes amazing pieces. I am trying to fuel his interest with a few of these types of books from B&N. This one is one I knew would do just that as it pictures and explains several techniques for the firing of clay pieces. He really likes the Raku process but has only done it once. He was very excited to receive this book as a Christmas gift this past year as his creative juices are flowing once again. Hopefully, soon, I will have some Raku pieces to display around the house. Hope this book sparks the fire in you too! Mars
