Allergic to Girls, School and Other Scary Things
Alvin Ho is an Asian American second grader who is afraid of everything–elevators, tunnels, girls, and, most of all, school. He’s so afraid of school that, while he’s there, he never, ever, says a word. But at home he’s a very loud superhero named Firecracker Man, a brother to Calvin and Anibelly, and a gentleman-in-training, so he can be just like his dad.

Allergic to Camping, Hiking, and Other Natural Disasters
Alvin Ho is back and his worst fear has come true: he has to go camping. What will he do exposed in the wilderness with bears and darkness and . . . pit toilets? Luckily, he’s got his night-vision goggles and water purifying tablets and super-duper heavy-duty flashlight to keep him safe. And he’s got his dad, too.

Alvin Ho Book One tells of a little boy who is able to talk at home and at friends' houses, but for some reason he can't bring himself to speak at school. He also has a fear of just about everything. Although Alvin has a good voice. He's easy to follow and seemingly does normal boy things for the most part, I thought he was a little "too quirky." I did like having a character of a different ethnicity than most of the chapter book series out there. I brought new culture and language to my children as we listened to the audio book. I say give it a try, but personally I'm not up to reading more about what Alvin is afraid of...there's just to many. I'm surprised he makes it out the house. Lol. Reviewed by Cherese Vines
