Overview

Dear Person Picking Up This Book,

Hi, I'm Jake. Glamour magazine's advice columnist. You probably think you don't know me. I'm anonymous, after all. But trust me, you do: I'm the guy who doesn't call. Who breaks up by text. Who stays for breakfast, walks your dog, then disappears into thin, thin air.

At least I used to be.

For years I was your basic dating nightmare. And then, under the influence of one magical woman my readers came to know as Orange Blossoms, I changed. Now I'm here to blow the lid off what you think you know about the way guys think. Because here's the big secret I learned from being slayed by Blossoms: Women already have what it takes to get what they want from men; they just need to know how to use that power.

Want a boyfriend? A better boyfriend? A ring? It's all yours for the asking.

But don't just take it from me. Glamour's "Jake" has been at it, living among men sharing their secrets with women since 1956. Now we're distilling our collective wisdom into ten rules to help you get the love life you deserve. A sneak peak at what you'll learn:

  • You've got to broadcast your personality. If you're a nerd, let your nerd flag fly.
  • The best men out there DON'T send expensive flowers.
  • For great sex, save a few tricks for later (much later) on.
  • Plus: How to make him think commitment was his idea? (Sneaky Yes. Necessary YES.)
For more than 50 years, Glamour magazine's Jake columnist has served as a dating consigliore for millions of American women. Now, in his trademark no-B.S. voice, Jake offers this indispensable guide for women. What are men really thinking How can you get the love life you want and deserve? Jake knows.

Meet the Author

There have been more than a dozen Jakes in the fifty-six-year history of Glamour magazine's column. This book was written by one of the most recent. He is now happily married to the woman his readers came to know as Orange Blossoms--thanks in large part to the wisdom they gave him.

This is a total self esteem booster for girls who feel uncomfortable with the way they appear. It teaches you what men really think of you. It is also very humorous!

Although I am in my 40s, and what I believe to be quite happy with life and the people in it, I found this book to be very insightful and interesting. I used to read "Jake" in Glamour Magazine in years past. No matter how old you are, nor what you may know, what particular insights or advice you may have heard or read, it doesn't hurt to hear/read some of it again. :-) Don't knock it.

I'm buying a copy for my future hypothetical daughter. Every single "single" woman must have.

I have to admit I wasn't really fond of the title at first. For some reason it made it seem like it wasn't going to be a knowledgable book. I read the sample and got into it pretty quickly though. It was a lot of the same things I've read in other dating books, but I feel like this explains things a lot better and didn't leave me hanging with questions afterwards. If you're looking for a book about finding love and keeping a guy interested its a good one to read!

Once I started reading this book I could not put it down! I have always been a fan of the Jake columns for their candid, honest advice and opinions, and this book did a great job of elaborating on this! I particularly liked the chapter about loving your body and realizing that women are far more focused on the "flaws" than men will ever be. Very true! Great job with this one, Jake!

Jake really goes into the man's point of view on women. This in turn helps women to understand the needs of men better. And he does it really well.
