Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - RevaBeth Russell
Covering many types of dementia including Alzheimer's, this book is a great, concise reference for young adults and adults. This book is where a research paper should start. Each type of dementia is clearly explained together with any possible treatment currently available. Common facts such as "dependency on alcohol is a drug induced dementia" are explained. Even relatively unknown dementias such as Lewy Body are clearly explained. Enough information on basic brain structure and function as well as neurology is given so that anyone will be able to understand the problems of the brain in dementia. This was not a gloom or doom book, but is straightforward and informative. The book is an essential resource to anyone who has a loved one or associate who has been diagnosed with any type of dementia. It describes the impact that these diseases have not only on the patient and the family, but also on society. My one complaint is the use of poorly designed graphs at the beginning of the book. Graphs should be pictures that are easy to read and interpret, but because the increments of measurement are not equal, it is difficult to read them accurately. The X axis for one graph was labeled 1900 1950 1995 2010 2030 2050. That paints a distorted view of information. The other illustrations and pictures are very good. Reviewer: RevaBeth Russell
