Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 7-10-Personal stories add interest to this clearly written and well-organized overview. After a profile of the disease and a brief history, symptoms and diagnosis are described and treatment and social implications are discussed, as well as studies about preventative measures and ongoing research. Willett relates information about several famous people who have (or had) this disease; a photograph of Ronald Reagan is the cover illustration. There are a few internal black-and-white photographs. Special sections include question-and-answer pages, a time line, chapter notes, lists of organizations, a few additional resources, and a four-page glossary of medical terminology. This title updates Elaine Landau's Alzheimer's Disease (Watts, 1996). While Linda Jacobs Altman's Alzheimer's Disease (Lucent, 2000) provides more background history, Willett focuses on what is known about the brain and the disease.-Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
