I found this book to be very informative and I now I have a much better understanding of what Alzheimer’s disease actually is. The author Evelyn B. Kelly, Ph.D. really breaks down the different parts of the brain and how they are affected by the disease. Each chapter focuses on a different part of the disease, for example on chapter is dedicated to the symptoms while another go through the history of the disease and how it got its name and what methods were originally used to treat it. I also liked how the author went it to detail for each different type of Alzheimer’s, early-onset, late-onset, and familial. She is able to explain all the facts while also touching on the fact that this can be a very difficult disease to not only live with, but also to be around. She also mentions studies being done on the disease and what the future holds. Though the book is somewhat short it is filled with valuable information that can be used if you are researching the disease or if you just want a better understanding of how it works. The goes in to detail of what happens in the genes to cause the disease and which genes cause each part of it. I have been curious to know more about Alzheimer’s ever since my grandma was diagnosed with it a few years ago. I have seen how stressful and difficult and can be to deal with and I wanted to better understand what exactly my grandma was going through and how the disease was affecting her. After ready this book I have a better appreciation for those who devote their time to dealing with others suffering from this tragic and currently incurable disease.
